Already been there and done that...Its a feeling helplessness its sickening to watch an individual die as a result of a DO NOT RESUSITATE ORDER. And worse to watch as someone burns alive inside a twisted vehicle that is totally involved in flames and there is no way to get to the vehicle or reach the victim because of the flames.

    • 3 years Traffic Division SDPD...I know a little of what you speak..some images are simply seared into your mind and heart and will never go away. YOUR experiences are MUCH more vast than mine. I hope your Blessings out weigh your horrors.

    • Actually they do...I also learned at a young age as a rookie how to deal with the horrors of the job. Ive seen alot, Ive been shot at 4 times. and Ive attended too many fellow officers. funerals. What made you resign SDPD?

    • Sad story...I blew out my knees, and Dr wouldn't release me to go back out on the street! The sad part was not through any grand or brave action...I tripped over a parking curb in the lot, after working 18 hours (it had been a "busy day")..light had popped off there, so it was dark as chit..and we had to detour around a Sargent's squad that he parked in a NO PARKING spot! Is that a pisser or what? lol

    • No doubt a sad story...Im sorry to hear that...Its a shame you can't get cleared to go back to the street. Do you still want to go back if you could get a release?

    • Yes and no..Traffic..probably not...I'm 48 now..lol MY Sargent wanted me to shoot for detective and/or UC, and that sort of did/does still interest me. I'm in PA now and the politics where I live are kinda different than what I was used to in CA..to put it mildly. I still have problems with my knees, try not to let it interfere with what I want to do, but it's probable that someday I'll need to get surgery...when I can't walk at all..as long as I can move and ride a horse..I'll wait and let "them" continue to improve the process!

    • You have to take care of you...but 48 isn't too old to do the job. I hate to see a good officer out of work. If your still certified maybe consider soemthing in the detective division. I got your back...

    • I'm not it's been rather a number of years now...over 8 and I'm in a different state or should I say CommonWealth as its called here! You're very kind though...how are things down yonder? Y'all doin ok weatherwise? (originally I was a southern girl.. Southern CA anyway!) Tell you one thing,
that job sure did teach me a whole new level of patience, and brought out the clown in me too sometimes...make em laugh and they didn't try nearly as much to run me over in the streets...imagine that! People are amazing on so many different levels..good and ahhhh challenging sometimes.

    • I have seen this also. She had fallen asleep at the wheel and her leg was pinned ....if I had known how it would effect me for the rest of my life I probably wouldn't have gotten out to save myself.
