You're reading I put a new radio in my car and there were 4 wires on one harness red yellow brown and purple. what could the purple be the only thing i notice about it is that the memory is whipped clear every time i turn the car off

I looked around online, but couldn't find much. What I found doesn't appear to be entirely accurate. You'd probably be better off using a multimeter to test the wires. Pending you test and connect them all properly, you shouldn't have any more wiring related issues.
