You're reading Is there an element (maybe a gas) that would expand in direct sunlight and combust if exposed to oxygen? Would it ever be found naturally in the human body?

Good point. Any ideas?

I'm writing a fanfiction for I AM LEGEND and trying to come up with a scientific explanation for why the vampires would smoke and sizzle when exposed to the sunlight. I was wondering if they could have some sort of gases trapped in their cells that would expand in sunlight and cause their cells to rupture, thus allowing those gases (or other state) to combust when exposed to water or air. I've heard that calcium might do it. What do you think?
