First accept the fact that you created this. You are inconsistant with your rules. set guidlines. give him a "three stikes option" 1. free 2. warning and 3. Spanking. very important do not spank your child when you are angry with what he has done. explain to him (DO NOT DEBATE) why he is getting a spanking and that you have given him 2 warnings and he has refused to comply, then execute the punishment, after you have spanked him, have him give you a hug (he will hate this - I know i did) and let them know that you love them and that to avoid this in the future they must obey you -DO NOT APOLOGIZE for spanking him or this all just went out the window. do not let your rules slack while in public- this gives them the idea that they can get away with it when you go places.

    • I can't believe you are recommending this for a 13 month old - this child is mostly pre-verbal!!!

    • I agree with 'saddened' when I was a kid the 3 warning rule was in force and on the third you got a smacked arse ...everyone in my age group(50's yo 60's year olds) would have gotten the same thing and everyone and I do mean everyone grew up just fine , this new age dogooder crap is just that crap ... don't believe me then look around at the kids in the last 20years who were raised by these rules ...then tell me its worked .. no on your life and now there are many who agree with me and even some who preached this 'talking nonsense" are changing their view's

    • hugging a child after spanking creates an anxious child as the two behaviors leave the child confused and likely distrusting of people who hug or show affection to them.

    • Yes, and why would you want to hug somebody who just hurt you?
