Most jumpers are 16 hands or taller.
As long as you are in the saddle, your size doesn't matter.

Some folks will suggest certain breeds, but look for a horse that "enjoys" jumping. Try several ones, as their gaits and the smoothness of the ride vary greatly. The standard conformation of a thoroughbred, sleek and long legged, is a good model. But look for a stable temperment, a horse that controls easily.

To start, you may want to buy an older horse that has experience jumping. The horse will teach you a lot and you will be exposed to the experience.

When you are ready to compete, then you will know the characteristics you want in a jumper.

    • Thanks, I tired to learn to ride on a green horse. Very difficult. I suggest at least either the horse or the rider know what to do.
