What is your opinion on Wikipedia? I give my opinion in my own answer.

    I am a Wikipedia fan, because:

    1) Wikipedia does not have publicity. The authors could be biased, but there is no general bias through people who were financing the site, e.g. through advertisements
    2) Wikipedia can be quoted ohne copyright problems
    3) most sites are not so reliable, because nobody has the posibility to correct their false information, as they may do by Wikipedia
    4) even professional encyclopedia can have error and be biased, their redactors are people, too.
    5) the information in Wikipedia is often more up to date, and more complete than in any other general matter online encyclopedia. More people participate in the discussion process by the redaction of the articles.
    6) of course, in Wikipedia there are sometimes errors and the information is sometimes biased. But you must just be aware of it and eventually counter check yourself.
    7) Wikipedia is often a good starting point, which give you already a lot of useful information and links for further reasearch
    8) by Wikipedia they have at least some policies for critics against persons, even if they do not immediatly react if something against these policies were done:

    • Good points. People often bash Wikipedia, but I'm pretty sure that the people who take time to write things for it do their homework, and if it is wrong, as you say, it may be rectified. Plus it requires links to the source for your info, so if you're not satisfied with what they have, at least it gives you expansion to seek out more.
