A relay is a race where more than one person runs it. if you are on the 4x400 relay that means 4 people run 400ms, it is also known as the mile relay because the total distant adds up to a mile.

tips for running the 400 is run as fast as you can because there is no time to get tired. i run the 400, 800 and the mile in track and im currently in my junior year of highschool. what you have to do to run a good 400 race is to get out fast and keep up that speed and it really hits you at the 300m mark and you just have to push the last 100. freshman year when i ran the 400 i would always be last and just take everybody at the 200 but i wouldnt advise it. i dont know how it worked for me it just did. just run your heart out man and everything will be good.

also 400m - 1600m (mile) is considered mid distance
