You're reading Who is the best heavyweight boxer of all time? I think Lenox Lewis.

TY for your answer.
Rocky had the best record but was not all that great a fighter.
Ali was SLOOOOWWWWWWW
Louis was amazing and deserves number 3
4 and 5 I dont know too much about
Holmes? He was even slower than Ali but did just keep coming
Foreman had a sledgehammer of a right on him
Corbett I dont know about
Tyson was an amazing boxer and if he had retired before his first term in jail then he would, without any doubt, have been number one.
Frazier was only as good as he was due to the people he was fighting.
.
Now, yes they are all amazing fighters for their time, but when compared to modern fighters I think only a young Tyson would still be there.
IMO OFC
TY again for a great answer. :)

Dempsey held the crown for many years in the 20's and into the 30's, Johnson was the first black champ back during the turn of the century and dominated the sport, Corbett was dominate back before Johnson, and Frazier fought in that 70's generation with so many greats that made the division brutal. I put Foreman there since he won the title twice, so many years apart. Marciano was a true slugger, and when you see his fights on film you can see every punch looks like a sledgehammer hitting a piece of meat, plus the guy looked like he was just made of iron or something.

I agree with RM but look at his defence! LL or MT or EH would have knocked him out easily.
by slothmister on January 26th, 2008
Defense is often overratted if you can take punches, which often guys who work close and pound the body have to do. My brother fought pro for a while and had that old move forward style and his basic claim was that getting knocked down in boxing is 90% mental. Many guys can't take it when someone hurts them and just go down, and guys like Frank Bruno prove that to be true sometimes. I would grant you that a Tyson Marciano fight would most liekly not go the distance, but "easily" knocking out Marciano might be a bit overstated since it never happened in real life and Tyson got knocked out by Buster Douglas who Marciano would have destroyed.

By the way, who is EH?

Also, I have to say I forgot to add Gene Tunney onto my list, so I amended my answer.

EH is Evander Holyfield :)
by slothmister on November 11th, 2008
Holyfield was a great fighter with a lot of heart, but not in the top ten, and there is no way Lewis, Tyson, or Holyfield would have knocked out Marciano.

Umm, slothmister, I do have to take exception to your comment regarding Joe Frazier, "only as good as he was due to the people he was fighting". Yes, monsters like Norton, geniuses like Ali. Tyson's only tough fights were all losses. Even "Bonecrusher" Smith, the only opponent Tyson went the distance with, could have taken him any time after round 10 if he'd had the guts - MT was clearly out of gas. Buster Douglas was a nobody journeyman, true champs don't get KO'd by them.
