In a lot of the fairy tales and childrens' stories, the term "boy" was used as if it were a type of meat. Like the giant in Jack and the Beanstalk saying "I smell boy" instead of "I smell A boy". I have seen this in many cases like a book called "the wolf who cried boy" where it says that the little wolf's favorite food was "boy". You don't really see it much used to refer to women but it is frequently used for the guys. Maybe society is just more comfortable with the idea of males as food. Males are really more disposable than females.
