I certainly do believe these ages. Firstly, I believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant word of God. Secondly, there is good reason why the first generations of the earth had longer lifespans than we do today. The first generations simply lived longer in order to continue to fill the earth. The bible looks at the family of unbelievers in those first generations by talking about the line of Cain. It also looks at the line of believers in the line of Seth. The long lifespans allowed more children to be born. It is not a stretch that the childbearing period of these ancients was proportional to that of today. So imagine the number of children you could have if you could have them up until you were 500 years old. It was the providence and special circumstances given by God that allowed this, what a blessing to fill the world at God's command.

    • Cain lost his temper, and became jealous and angry because he had not bothered to follow the requirements for offerings, and that is why the Lord was displeased. Cain harbored his anger and let it get out of control and did not heed the Lord's pointing out to him that it wasn't a great idea to feel that way. Because he did not accept this, anger led to murder which is a behavior pattern we still see today.
And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.. And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. . And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: . But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. . And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? . If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. . And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. . And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? . And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
Because God liked Abel's animal sacrifice more than Cain's vegetables (Genesis 4:3-5), Cain kills his brother Abel in a fit of jealousy.
To this day vegetarians are frowned upon
Why couldn't god have accepted Cain's veggie offering?
They could of had a fine meal mutton and broccoli!

    • The offering was not acceptable only because Cain was not acceptable. The thoughts and feelings of Cain's heart were unacceptable and contrary to the will of God, God's dealing with Cain was fair. Abel gave an offering from a heart full of God-pleasing faith, that is why his offering was acceptable because Abel, by faith, was acceptable. There is nothing wrong with being vegetarian that is a free choice (though, recognize that God also gave meat for food cf. post flood words of God) the only reason was because of the heart in which the offering was given.

    • But it sounds like god knew Cain was easily upset and he,
caused the rift between the two bros. to fulfill his agenda whatever that may have been.
