A major reason for this question to come up, of course, has to do with the current Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is from Austria.  There are many who wish now to amend the Constitution to allow a foreign-born President, specifically because they'd like to see Schwarzenegger fill this position.

As happy as I am to have him as Governor of my state, I would have to be opposed to allowing him or any other person with strong ties to any foreign nation be President of this one.

A state governor has very little role in the dealings between this nation and other nations.  A President, on the other hand, has a great deal of influence over our nation's relationships with other countries.  I want to be able to be sure, of anyone who has any power with regard to foreign policy, that his loyalty is to this country, and to no other.

If Schwarzenegger were to become President of the United States of America, and if some dispute were to occur between us and Austria, where would his loyalties be?  Could we really trust him to put American interests ahead of Austrian interests?

    • I'm not certain I agree but a good point and well worth the Thumbs Up.
