Thanks - I will pass that on although I think the person does not have such issues. Her husband (who does not drink at all) has expressed concern.

best way is for her husband to put her in a situation where she can't drink, for example, take her to a day at a museum and see if she starts looking at her watch, scratching, getting jittery etc.

I wish he was that interesting - he sleeps until lunchtime then plays on the computer all weekend - I understand why she drinks I think it is boredom.

I disagree with the way you've put this. If you drink 2 bottles a day, you've got an addiction, period, because that much alcohol will cause you to go through torturous (and possibly deadly) withdrawl if you stop.
But, the flipside is that some people are not physiologically addicted to alcohol but still are alcoholic. If you binge drink every weekend, and pretty much can't stop at one drink, you're socially / psychologically alcoholic, even if you aren't addicted in the same strict sense that someone who drinks 2 bottles a day is.
