PocketNut is as sure as a peanut

we have evidence that people were recording the phases of the Moon more than 20,000 years ago, from the preserved remains of a piece of bone and a bone knife handle, which each show carved diagrams of the Lunar cycle, there is some debate as to why this was being recorded, whether it was for practical or religious reasons, but this is evidence of people not only recording, but understanding the passing of time.
