After the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, and the Distinguished Service Medal, you arrive at the Silver Star. It is awarded solely for heroism in combat against an opposing armed force.

The Bronze Star is a lower decoration than the Silver Star, and may be awarded for heroism, or it may be awarded for achievement of service in operations against an opposing armed force.
