    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

MP3s are digital audio files that require either audio software or a standalone digital media player to facilitate playback. The difference between an MP3 and a digital media player is that the MP3 is the "carrier" of the audio, while the media player is necessary for playback, just like a record player is needed to play records.
