If you are talking of house-training, then you can try around 8 weeks, but most puppies have no bladder or bowel control until about 12 weeks old.
Positive re-enforcement works. Smacking your puppy and/or rubbing his face in his pee/poop does not work and it is cruel!
You have to go outside with tiny treats in your pocket and your pup on a leash, stand out in the middle of the yard and ignore him until he does something. Then Immediately give him a treat and praise.
Accidents will stil happen in the house for quite a while, that's just a fact of being a puppy parent. So just be patient and consistent.

    • Read my answer please, but points to you for the great parts of yours! And, it's not just control they lack as puppies, CONCEPT too is totally lacking...they have no clue that simply copping a squat isn't a normal thing to do....hugs and blessings for helping spread the word on face rubbing...it's hard to believe some people still think that's an acceptable way to train...but they're out there!
