Movie The Fourth Kind (2009) tells about alien abductions, but federals do anything to cover up. Why is it so damn important to cover up?

It's like having a World War III, but people wont know about it and die because of cover ups.
Why is it so damn important to cover up about UFOs? IF they are a threat to humans, should we be prepared to fight against them? One professor from very rich university asked me, if it would be a good idea to let people know that they do exist? What the hell did he mean by that? Why it wouldn't be?
You didn't cover up WWs, you didn't cover up any diseases like AIDS, SARS, but suspicious/unexplainable and deadly things are happening and, why are UFOs to be kept under secret? Should we blame U.S.'s secret superweapons development department since they did steal Nikola Tesla's Flying Machine project and that there are no UFOs, it's only U.S. military abducting to rape innocent people with their UFO crap?
