If you pour warm water on someone's hand when they are sleeping, they will "wet their bed." Why?

Don’t know offhand, but when I was a junior in high school, my cabin-mates at band camp decided they would do that to whoever fell asleep first. I was *so* tired, but I fought it really hard because I knew what was coming, if I fell asleep—until I just couldn’t hold out any longer. As soon as the rest of the guys figured out I was asleep, they brought over the warm water, only to discover that I’d been fighting sleep so hard that I’d actually fallen asleep with my eyes open. They were too creeped out to do anything, since I was “watching” them. :-D
