Yes. It's respectful & polite.
-
Yes! Ma'am
-
Yes, Ma'am, I do.
-
Just about anybody in the military when they are addressing a superior officer who is female.
-
ma'am yes ma'am. (damn military parents)
-
Yes. I did last night to the collections lady on the phone, LOL! It worked. :)
-
Yes, ma'am! I didn't know it's out of fashion.
-
I do all the time. I was raised in the 50's and it's just what we were taught.
-
In my line of work it is required thet we use Ma'am and Sir.
-
Everyday
-
Yes ...and it sounds good :-) !
-
I still do out of respect if the lady is a good bit older than I. Otherwise, as you said, some don't like to be called ma'am.
-
I do, all the time. And I also say "Miss" to young ladies. It's the gentlemanly thing to do if you're a man, and the ladylike thing to do, if you're a woman. Or just plain good manners. :)
-
Yes, ma'am. When my 5-year old gets unruly at the mouth, we revert back to honorifics such as this, just to reinforce behavioral discipline and respect.
-
No ma'am. =P I do sometimes, just to be funny.
-
someone called me ma'am the other day here at work but i dont mind
-
Yes ma'am, I do, and so does nearly everyone I know.
-
Yes "ma'am" and I even say Yes "sir". I like politeness! I'm so polite I'll give ya 3 point'
-
yup yup -- I believe it's the polite thing to do... :-)
-
I call the little girl I babysit ma'am, because she's often bossing me around! LOL :)
-
Yes I do when addressing a lady. For eg. that means everytime a women answers the phone.
-
Hmmm...I don't THINK I do, but I'm guessing I do.
-
No. Today, the preferred word is 'bitch'.
-
Maybe because I come from England where the expression Ma'am is not used, I think it is really polite and cute! Reminds me of the old cowboy films I watched as a child.
-
I imagine most of your answerers are American? In England the term isn't used, except to address the Queen if you are familiar (work or official 'conversation etc.,). It's also used in the military services and the prison service, but I think that's about it. In the street people might use 'Mrs' or 'Miss', but 'love', 'dear' and even 'duckie' and similar expressions of endearment are also commonly used by strangers if they don't know your name.
-
I do. One of my drill instructors in the Air Force was a woman. She made sure that I got that down.
-
thats funny that you asked that. i help my mom out at her highschool cause shes a teacher and i got called ma'am a little bit ago, which is kinda wierd cause im only 19
-
Yes, Ma'am. I did it just ten minutes ago.
-
I do. I call my daughter Ma'am.
-
When addressing someone older by quite a few years than I am..I do. And my kids do though they are grown..the youngest being 18. They have always been basically polite and have pretty much spoken respectfully to their elders. Sir and ma'am.
-
Sure do, Ma'am. I use it all the time, depending on the age of the person. I tend to use it for those the same age or older or from the south:-)
-
I do. But I will also say "Miss" if the person is younger or even close to being younger. I think that ma'am is overused and some females I know don't like being called "ma'am."
-
Yes, some still do. Up until I was in my 40's I hated being called Ma'am, because I thought it sounded old. But now I like and feel I've earned it.
-
Being an army brat, Sir and Ma'am are second nature to me.
-
I do, if I didn't my Momma would have slapped my face off.
-
We do in Georgia(U.S.A.). We raise our kids to say ma'am as in yes maam or no maam just like we do with yes sir or no sir. It's a sign of respect here.
-
Only at my parole hearings... and when addressing the lady who owns the establishments I am writing from... LOL! [No I'm not really banged up, BTW, before I worry anyone...!]
-
Yes Ma'am is a phrase I use often. I use it as a kind of cheeky remark when a women asks smething for the fifth time~
-
Yeah a phone survey lady called me yesterday and kept calling me 'Ma'am' I felt weird lol it felt so formal. O__o
-
Yes. It's very common in Southern USA.
-
Yes, My children do, several of their friends do and the high school kids at work call me ma'am. Children learn by example and I would say people still show respect for others in "our neck of the woods" Great question!! +5
-
I was thirty-something and dining out with my dad when a young waiter called me "ma'am". my Dad started sniggering and I said, Don't laugh, you're the father of a ma'am
-
I do! It's a sign of respect, just as sir is to men.
