Ther real answer is: There are none. Utilizing ANY source of energy can have a measurable negative impact upon the environment. The question really should be: "Which energy resource meets my needs and produces the LEAST negative impact upon the envirnment." And 'renewable' in a misnomer. ALL energy resources are 'renewable' in some way, shape, or form. Fossil fuels are renewable, but only on a geological time scale. Nuclear fission is renewable if you design your reactors to be breeder reactors. Alcohol is renewable provided you pump the land full of the nutrients that were removed by the plants harvested for alcohol production (which includes the use of vast amounts of natural gas for fertilizer production, by the way). The term 'renewable energy' has become a catch phrase for 'free energy' in today's society. This is not true. All energy comes with a cost. Just like anything else of extreme value that others put a rediculously low price tag on, be leary. Learn about the subject instead of letting politicians and businessmen lead you around by the nose.

mushroom Fossil fuels are not renewable in any practical sense: once burned, they're gone. Nuclear fusion has the potential to supply all the power we could ever need with zero pollutant emissions and only very short-term radioactive waste.
