  • No. But power has continued to be pretty centralized there, and it's perhaps becoming even more so. The place is capitalist but its form of capitalism isn't very attractive, and organized crime there is incredibly pervasive. I've heard it said that Russians prefer a strong leader and are somewhat suspicious of democracy. There's a lot I don't know about Russia, though - I'm no expert.
