Pc power switch yields nothing, but reset button brings pc to life for about 4 seconds. What could that mean? Homebuilt (not by me), kt400 dragon ultra motherboard, full complement of drives and accessories. Worked for a time after it was built.

I think so as it is home built your jumper settings are wrong. On the motherboard there are pins know as jumpers they must have been set in wrong manner i suggest you to prefer to your guide that came with your motherboard and set the jumper settings. Most probbaly your "power on" jumper settings are wrong
