  • Because Christianity is every bit as judgemental and controlling as any other religion - it persecutes groups that it does accept the same as all the rest. It has no more love or patience or forgiveness than any of the others do and is equally as hypocritical, meddlesome and displays the same strong desire to control. In short, it is different than any other religion. In the UK, most people do not hate Christianity in particular, they just do not beleive in any relgion at all - whatever it is.
  • Because reguardless of what it is supposed to be about, the actions of the church often do not second those traits.
  • because its the same as ALL organised religions ....its controlling and hatefully of any other religion and people who do not believe
  • The Bible shows that Christianity is also judgemental of things that are really quite trivial, and also that non Christians are destined for an agonizingly painful eternity. Love, patience and forgiveness are the ways that some Christians interpret the Bible. Others interpret it to mean threatening and evangelizing are the duty of all humans. Some evil people even use religions (including Christianity) to justify their crimes. These individuals are the main reason why some people hate Christianity so much.
  • MAYBE because its fundamental beliefs are based on over the top (OTT) exaggerations (for example, all are born in sin, God made the ultimate sacrifice He literally DIED for man..) because prople who are orherwise rational not only become blind themselves to all the OTT exaggerations but they spend a lot of time, money and efforts getting others too to turn a blind eye to these same OTT exaggerations. HQ 5:77 Say: "O people of the Book! exceed not in your religion the limits (of what is reasonable), trespassing beyond the truth, nor follow the vain desires of people who went wrong in the past,- who misled many, and strayed (themselves) from the plain path."
  • When the religion become organized, they will start curbing your freedom. Then people will start not liking it, because we are all essentially love being free. Most f the organzied religions now a days doing business with it. They do the thinking for you and not letting you think.
  • Because Christianity has, throughout its histrory and indeed almost since its inception, consistently shown itself to be /not/ a religion of love or forgiveness, let alone more love, but in fact the opposite.
  • Probably cause of centuries it hasn't practiced what it preaches.

  • I have found the answers very revealing : the established Church is very unattractive at the moment. This then makes people believe that Jesus Christ is unattractive, as the Church is there to worship Christ, setting itself as His Bride. As you can see there is a long way to go yet! There is much pruning to do by God! Paul warned the Corinthians of divisions in the church and of worshipping the leaders of the church. If we purely focused more on His Word and less on the human construct of the church, the Church would come a long way. I will say though that most God fearing Christians are modest people and as ordinary people will not necessarily be targets of the media nor will they seek to publicise themselves. However the established Church is a target of the media and does publicise itself, and clearly because it is disunited, it is unattractive to people. However we Christians are all members of the Church and we should do all we can to promote Christ and live out His teachings. However be warned ; the great Reformers were rejected by the established Church. Stay true to His Word.
  • Because the actions of certain branches of that religion do not match the goals which, you say, that religion is about. *Some* Christians are downright obnoxious in their intolerance of homosexuals. *Some* Christians want their religiously inspired views to override evidence-based science in schools. It is only *those* Christians we hate, not the religion as a whole.
  • Because sin loves darkness and hates light.
  • Because the majority of those who preach love, practice hate.
  • It's because it is a cult (as any religion is) and I believe most people realize this on some level...religion tries to control people (whether you can admit this to yourself or not) by brainwashing them with what is deemed acceptable human behavior according to THEIR view (not yours) of God. Additionally, quite a few (dare I say a majority) of Christians have this "I"m holy and you are NOT" attitude and tend to be annoying, weak, judgemental, intrusive, perfectionistic, black-and-white underdeveloped thinkers who believe they are better than the "rest of the world" and try to force their views (not only religious) onto you (but isn't religion about tolerance???) Religion is the foundation and a breeding ground for hypocrisy if you ask me :_) Also, religion tries to paint a picture of your higher power for you and this is a no-no. God and/or each person's higher power is a very personal thing...not a public affair. Do you think its just coincidence that some of the most messed up people (in terms of mental and emotional stabilty) come from highly religious backgrounds? Lastly, religions try to use their group influence or "power" as some may say not for love, peace, forgiveness, tolerance but for instilling unnecessary shame and guilt (for being human), and teaching non-tolerance & hatred for those who don't believe or are from another denomination. Personal God or Higher-power YES, religion no.
  • christianity is about hate. wake up dude. thats why many people dont like it.
  • Christianity calls men and women away from their sins. Many people are too attached to their sin and do not like being reminded that they are not living as God would wish so they attack and hate the Church. With love in Christ.
  • That's not what christianity is about. You should really do some more research. The christian religion is about love patience and forgiveness of other christians, not anyone else. I wish I remembered the chapter and verse, but it goes like this. A woman comes to jesus and says please heal my daughter, and jesus says god sent me here to comfort the israelites no one else. You wouldn't take food from the masters table to feed the dogs.
  • The religion has many faces, including those of hate (crusades, inquisitions, conservatives who are against gay rights, religious intolerance against Muslims or other non-Christians...). It's only some who live by the softer side of love and patience. Then there are those who want to teach their beliefs in school and to pass laws reflecting their own morality. But most important - most people don't hate Christianity - they just don'e believe in it. +5
  • The problem is not with the teachings of Christ; the problem is with the vast majority who claim to be Christian.   The other reason is that people don't like being told that their behavior is not moral. That really ticks em off.
  • Satan and the demonic forces have always opposed the things and people of God. To the unbeliever under the influence/persuasion of Satan, we are a "smell of death." "For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life" (2 Corinthians 2:15-16). The light of Christ that emanates from His followers exposes the evil in the hearts of unbelievers. When the gospel is preached or the life of godliness is lived, the unbeliever is confronted with his own sinfulness and the decision whether or not to repent. The sinful nature does not yield easily to being confronted with the gospel of Christ. --- Another reason that many hate Christianity is that terrible things have been done in the name of Christ. Child abuses, wars, etc., have been done by people that professed to be Christians. The problem is that it is inconsistent with the character of Christ. This causes people to lose heart toward Christianity. I often say that the Christian is not perfect, but the Christ is. We as Christians (myself included) have done things to besmirch His holy name. But it is a tragic mistake, if not a deception, to discredit Christianity and Jesus Christ because its practitioners have failures. Jesus was perfect and He saves imperfect people. Our glaring imperfections should show just how great is His amazing grace toward us that He would save a "wretch like me." -- In summary, the hatred is both the direct work of anti-christ forces and the sinful failings of Christians themselves. But God/Christ is still holy and He still saves sinful people.
  • Many religions is about love, patience, forgiveness, etc. That's the point of religion, to make you a better person and treat others the way you want to be treated. It's when certain individuals use religion for their own selfish goals and/or when they don't practice what they preach is what can turn people away from a religion. You never seen or heard a religious person say they hate something/someone? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIW27p4BI_g
  • Let's see... The Crusades - Where was the love? Salem Witch Hunts - Where was the love? Homosexuality - Where is the love? Atheism - Where is the love? If Christianity is about love, so very much, then why are so many Christians so very intolerant of others? To be told it is wrong to be homosexual, wrong to not believe, and downright EVIL to be Wiccan or Pagan, says that Christianity is not all about love. Love includes respect. And many Christians only respect and 'love' those that are good little Christians and follow the exact same version of the religion as they do. I've seen it time and time again. Tell me, where is it a religion about love, when the one you worship will put those that do not believe and/or worship as you, in hell to burn for eternity? Where is it a religion about love, when those that are not Christians are not allowed to marry their chosen beloved, because Christians have said same-sex marriage is evil and wrong? If it is all about love, then tell the majority of Christians to stop preaching intolerance and hate.
  • Christianity (like Islam) may claim to be all about love, patience, etc, but the actions of the adherents speak far louder than those words.
  • Because most people think that because people say they are Christian yet they act as any other person out there. Without loving their neighbor, without patience or forgiveness they automatically think that there are no real Christian and that that's what the "religion" (which I don't consider it a religion) is not a religion about Love, patience, forgiveness etc... The greatest commandment in the Bible is to Love God and to love your neighbor. Everything follows after that. If everyone who was a Christian would truly follow these two commandments maybe many people wouldn't hate the "religion" but would be Christians themselves.
  • 5-28-2017 In the 19th century Americans started moving west and three institutions went with them. There was vaudeville, traveling entertainment. There was lyceum, traveling education and culture. And there was the itinerant preacher, offering a new style of preaching called "hell fire and brim stone". It was very entertaining, only loosely based on scripture, and pastors didn't even try to compete. Instead they switched to preaching public morality and philosophy. Eventually an entire generation grew up not knowing the first thing about the religion they claimed to believe. That is why most Christian churches don't teach doctrines, and most members don't know what they are supposed to believe.
    • Thinker
I don't always agree with your comments but in this case I do. Churches today are mostly a social club with little or no actual teaching of scripture because most preachers don't know the truth.
  • Because just like those junk vans saying "free candy" do not actually contain any candy despite claiming so. Thus Christianity is as far away from " love and forgiveness" as you can get away with without claiming false advertising.
  • Because there is more hate in the world. Love and hate don't go well together. 1 John 4:20 "If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen."
  • People fail to see the love of God because of the sins of imperfect people. Their own and that of others.
    • Thinker
Name some sins and let's see how many are really Biblical sins or man's sins.
    • Linda Joy
I'm not doing this. I know when I am being convicted by the Holy Ghost! I don't need for you to interpret for me. Thank you for your kind intentions though.
    • Thinker
Quite calmly, if what one does does not cause physical harm, mental harm, of problems of conscience then it is most likely not a sin.
  • People in general do not know or study the Bible and the Word of the Lord God and Jesus Christ, They go on "hear-say" from so called Christians whom do not know anymore than what they hear from a preacher who most likely doesn't know either. If one studies the Bible properly and use the research tools available they can learn the truth. The use of words in the past has often changed from then to now. The way people said and understood things back when the books of the Bible were written has changed a lot. Matthew 22:36-40 gives the commandments we are to follow. The hate comes from lack of understanding and not wanting to learn the truth. If some of you reading this desire to learn the truth of the Bible read the book, The Royal Law Of Liberty by Darwin Chandler. It is available through most any book store and on line at Adobe Books and Kindle. This book will teach you the truth and you will begin to understand. By putting the information into practice you will learn the true love of the Bible.
  • Christianity today is not how it was in Christ's day. Although shortly after Christ died it did start to fall away from its original roots. Almost immediately. men from the Christian religion were wanting others to follow them and their ways differed slightly. Christ preached love and forgiveness but if you look in the Christian religion today by and large that is not what is practiced. What you see is backbiting, tearing each other down whenever given the chance, and you know what irks me the most about people that claim to be Christian...they do not help anyone and that is a KEY to being a Christian. (Matthew 25:41-46, Proverbs 3:27). JESUS ALSO STATED "By this all will know that you are disciples of mine, if you have love for each other." So there you go.
