water is a polar polar is a polyatomic ion that is possitivly charged on one side(the side with the hydrogen atoms) and negativly charged on the other depolarization is the spreading of the charge throughout the ion repolarization is the refineing and placing the charge on opposite sides of the ion

Depolarization is the increase of membrane potential towards 60 mV caused by the opening of sodium channels in response to an action potential. Repolarization is the decreasing of the membrane potential back towards resting potential (around -60mV) caused by opening of voltage-sensitive potassium channels.
