  • My Mom doesn't like music. My Dad listened to Elvis, The Beatles, and country. I like Elvis and the Beatles but I don't like country (the only exception is Johnny Cash).
  • No. I like classical, jazz. They liked some oldies and mostly pop.
  • Yes, I think so. They listened to Zeppelin, The Doors, stuff like that. I listen to mostly old school rock, and the occasional country song. Though, my dad detested country.
  • in a big way, it brings back my childhood. I love it
  • My mum has always listened to classic rock & some southern rock. My dad listens to southern rock & blues music.. I listen to mostly rock & country. My mom cant stand country & it isnt my dad's favorite either, so i guess my answer is yes & no.
  • My dad's taste definitely influenced my taste in music. As for my mother, well, thank God I escaped her genetic predisposition to Barry Manilow and Kenny G.
  • Yes, everything they loved, I learned to love. I can now listen and enjoy just about any kind of music except for a few exceptions. Classical, Flamenco, Rock, Opera, Blues, etc
  • I wouldn't go so far as to say influenced my musical tastes ... more they helped broadend it from 'big bands' and 'bobby soxers' to 'rock'n'roll' to 'heavy rock' and 'folk'
  • Yes, but I grew tired of their close mindedness
  • Yes, absolutely. My parents owned a record store from 1972 to 1996 or so. I was exposed to all kinds of music from a very young age. I am always open to new kinds of music, and my tastes cross all genres.
  • My parents played a lot of broadway musicals and classical music on an old 78 rpm record player. I still occasionally listen to these types of music from time to time.
  • yes, i like the old stuff! don't like any of this new music, just doesn't sound musical to me
  • Not at all. They love traditional Chinese opera and folk music, which I find difficult to understand and somewhat boring. I like American popular music (the Carpenters), the Swedish foursome ABBA, the Beatles, and Asian pop music, like Pink Lady from Japan:
  • Yes, indeed. My mother was a singer in the 40s and I loved to hear her and her sisters sing the Andrews Sisters type songs in three part harmonies. I learnt harmonies from listening to them. It became as natural as breathing to be able to sing in harmony. Of course, my eventual preferences in music were not the 40s things, but I still love to perform the occasional war time song.
  • Sure, as a typical teen I liked whatever they thought I shouldn't. But then again they didn't play the Beatles or Stones in elevators then.
  • My father has very broad tastes in music, and even though we don't have much of a realationship with eachother apart from the fact that he's my dad, I seem to have been influenced by him a lot, 'cause I have broad tastes too. Though he does enjoy free-form jazz more than I do..... Certainly not mother, she likes classic rock, and while that's just fine, she doesn't like much else. It's hard for me to introduce her to new things, and I never get to listen to my music while in her car. But...I guess my influences come more from other places than my parents.
  • I grew up in the 50's, and they listened to rock&roll. My mother discovered Whitesnake when I was in my 40's. Now I listen to rap with my son, and he listens to the oldies with me. So I guess we all influenced each other.
  • Sure. My mom was a really good pianist, and I heard classical music from infancy onward. She also played brilliant ragtime. She started all of us kids on piano lessons, then moved us to some other teacher when we got too stubborn and lazy to practice on her say-so. We all sang (three brothers and three girls) and could harmonize without having been explicitly taught to do so. We all liked music of our (respective) time, and my mom liked some of our music too. She was eclectic; we are eclectic. I like the best of just about every kind of music - jazz, r&r, bluegrass, etc. - and I go pretty deep in the classical repertoire.
  • INitially but then it became a two way process. I.e. I was taken to see the opera, exposed to the Beatles, discovered some old stuff in the record collection but then I dioscovered great music through playing and studying that I then shared with them (Verdi's Requiem springs to mind). Although I don't think my mother ever really got on with Slipknot but hey each to their own...
  • Yes, in the beginning, but then I discovered rock music and then I discovered heavy metal.
  • Nope, not at all I guess. My dad listened to hard rock, and my mother was the disco/soft rock type. I have been listening to R&B and Hip-Hop since the 3rd grade. LOL
  • My mom listens to some christina radio thing its like church everyday....sounds like a dang choir..my dad listens to real music:)
  • I was going to say no, but in fact, what they liked, I disliked, so I guess that did have an infulence on me didnt it !!
  • Definitely! I love Fleetwood Mac, Janis Joplin, and The Beatles thanks to them.
  • they did to an extent, to hear an artist/song playing over and over, forcing itself into your mind to be hummed and "stuck in your head" can make anyone enjoy any music depending on the mood at hand.
  • Not even a little bit. My parents were into "big band" music and the "crooners" of the 60's. I am a total blues guy.
  • Sort of. Up until the age of about 10, we only had AM radio in our car. My brother and I knew more oldies than any other kids we knew. I have a great appreciation and respect for a lot of it.
  • Daddy liked dixieland jazz, and I picked up on that from him. Mama liked big band music from the 30s and 40s, and I appreciate that because of her influence. I'm more into alternative rock and new age, and Irish traditional being a huge favorite, but I am most happy for the love of music they gave me, and that was their most important gift to me. It has lasted a lifetime and contributed to my personal growth in ways no other influence has managed.
  • Kinda my dad was the ac/dc rock type
  • Absolutely! I still love listening to the music I grew up with! Eagles, REO, Aerosmith, Tom Petty, Steve Miller and the Silver Bullet Band, The Carpenters......
  • Yes they did some... and I notice that I have had the same effect on my kids.
  • My mom nvr listens to music she didnt influence me in any way my dad did a little
  • Only negatively...I cannot stand the music they listen too since it's just like them...Old and Dry
  • No, they hardly ever played music when I was young.
  • to a certain extent yes. My mom liked country and I like some too that she used to listen too. She also loved the 50's and 60's tunes, which I love. My father liked Elton John alot and I like him too. But I also have my own taste in music.
  • I can thank my mother for expanding my musical tastes outside of my own generation, but most of the music I like I have discovered on my own.
  • Well, my dad did introduce me to Cradle of Filth for example. My dad had his preferences, but he had over 2000 bootlegged cassettes lol, from Enya to Ministry. I always use to borrow some music, and he'd let me, but he was all like, you see how that tape was placed when you took it out? When you put it back there, I better not notice a single difference young lady and blah blah blah lol. Still, there was a lot of choice.
  • No. It was the other way around. At first my mom tolerated pop but listened mostly to the music that was around when she was a kid/teenager, while I listened to rap. Now she listens to rap.
  • No. When I was 9 I met one of my cousins and he would listen to Richard Clayderman music which is romantic piano, remakes of popular songs and modern versions of old classics. I liked it and ever since my taste has gradually evolved into more original classical music, especially Rachmaninoff.
  • It made me look for other types.I like 60's pop I just needed more.
