  • Maggots are not the most important 'dead body' eaters. In fact they are very minor. For on thing, they don't die, they turn into flies who lay eggs in rotting meat which turn into flies, etc. The biggest carcass cleaners are beetles that do a great job of cleaning. They are awesome little critters. They drill deep down into the soil to get to buried carcasses, too. And they come back up for air afterwards.
  • All dead things biodegrade.
