  • coz he isnt god! he was a mighty massanger of god! he preach the ingeel(the good news). sad to say it cant be found any mor. its been change by ignorent people!
  • If he's God I don't know how there can be a higher being for him to pray to. One possibility is that he didn't pray, but I can't say he didn't without contradicting the Bible because there are quite a few instances in the NT of Jesus praying. Here are just three. In Matthew 14:23 "he went up into a mountain apart to pray" This is presumably praying in the sense of worshipping. In Luke 22:32 he says "I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not". This is praying in the sense of pleading. And according to Mark 14:35 he "fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him." This time the praying is a combination of worship and pleading. He wanted to be saved from the death that was facing him. The other possibility is that he is not God. That, one can say without contradicting Jesus because nowhere does he say that he is God.
  • Yes Jesus is God. He prayed to show us an example of how we should pray to God.
  • My understanding of the Bible is that He is fully God, and He is fully man. Since He is fully man, He prayed to God the Father.
  • In regard to Christ being God, although people can believe what they want, the problem with denying Jesus’ divinity is that theologically speaking, it creates many problems especially when considering what Jesus accomplished on the cross. Briefly, 1) God created humans and is their rightful Ruler 2) Humans rebelled against God, the rightful Ruler 3) God is just and so rebellion has to be dealt with in Judgment/death. God is also merciful and wants the rebel to return to Him, be forgiven and not perish 4) The problem of rebellion is between us and God. 5) God demonstrates His justice and mercy by becoming man (Jesus) and substituting Himself to die in our place. Since He is fully man, he is an appropriate substitute. Since He is fully God, He can substitute Himself for all men. Since He is fully God, and since the problem was between God and man, Jesus’ death was not the death of an innocent third party.
  • Jesus was and is the Son of God. He prayed to his FATHER in heaven.
  • You know, I'm not a Christian, and this is actually a duplicate (probably triplicate or more) question. I will answer it exactly as I answered the first one. By Trinitarian Christianity, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all One. By this view, Jesus was praying to Himself. Not all Christians are Trinitarians. By this view, Jesus is the Son of God, but not God. Thus, Jesus was praying to His Father, a separate being. Here are some of the other questions that addresses this same issue: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/135798 http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/530034
  • The same way Joe Hovah can claim to be a jealous god, then turn around and say that all other gods are false. He's a loon -- it's simply psychotic to be jealous of imaginary people...
  • from m y understanding, GOD's son is Jesus, and Jesus was crucified on the cross to forgive us all of our sins. GOD=father JESUS = gods son.. if i am wrong, let me know
  • because jesus was not god, he is massanger of GOD. his reall name is isa-alaihis salam he is only the prophet of GOD
  • Prayer is another word for conversation. Jesus conversed with His Father, thru prayer. It was spiritual conversation. Prayer is not just eyes closed, head down. Prayer is mental conversation that can happen day or night. In any activity, walking, driving, working. Prayer is a two way street. Its a conversation. Both parties speak, answer and ask questions. its a relationship. It can be vocal. You can hear Him speak to you. He sounds like He is standing behind you. The sound is in your mind. But you think it comes from behind you. Jesus was a physical being. He had to communicate with his spiritual Father. And so we are physical beings. And we can communicate with our Spiritual Father in exactly the same way.
  • Not according to original Christianity, but the roman christianity of fourth century.
  • Being a christian is not about denomination. And Catholic is a denomination. Being a christian is about loving Jesus and The Holy Spirit and El Shadai. Being a christian means reading the old testament and the new testament as if it was written just for you. It means believing every word. It is like getting your brain washed. Your heart gets washed in the process. Once you start reading, you wont stop. You will give up the internet, partying with your friends, reading novels and watching dvds. You will realize churches are filled with dead people. You will want to be alive and living in the Spirit. And you can be when you are born again. The Holy Spirit invades your body and your heart and makes you a new person. You become someone who wants to do the will of El Shadai. It is your only desire to serve. Self becomes secondary. You pray and listen to El Shadai speak to you through the Holy Spirit. Jesus is your role model. What would Jesus do? He would ask his Father for help and advice.
  • He prayed beacuse GOD is his Father and God had a rule only to pray to him. JESUS prayed for help, and a guide from HEAVEN above. Greenbean
  • We keep telling you the answer and you dont want to accept the truth. Jesus wasnt God. He was God material. He was especially made by God to give Humans a chance at become children of God. He was born of a virgin with the sperm of the holy spirit. He became human with a God Mind. He was perfectly imperfect. He was a human in a God Body. he was God in a human body. But you cant just say God and expect people to understand. God needs specificity. God is everything in the universe. Elohim created Jesus with specifics in mind. Obviously your interpretation of what christianity is saying about who Jesus was/is is mixed up. If Jesus was God. Well, Jesus wasnt God. No IF about it. He was human by all appearance. He had a heart for God. He was made by God. You were made by God. Jesus was made as a human so he could share our problems. He prayed/communicated to his father through prayer. Your answers are in the new testament.
  • Jesus was the Son of God. He maintained his relationship with his Father, and set an example for us as well. The more interesting question to me is: WHAT did Jesus pray for? Jesus set an example in that as well, but he also said we should not vainly repeat ourselves. His most famous prayer is sometimes called The Lord's Prayer. 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we orgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. http://scriptures.lds.org/en/matt/6/11#11 The Lord prayed powerfully, and also taught that the Holy Spirit would teach us WHAT to pray for. A simple framework for prayer follows these steps: 1. Address God, respectfully or humbly if possible. (If you are angry at him, it may be okay to shout. Just be honest.) I most often say, "Heavenly Father" or "Father in Heaven." 2. Thank God for things you are thankful for. 3. Ask God for things that you need or want. 4. Close in the name of Jesus Christ. Something like, "These things I ask for in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, Amen." (Amen denotes closing and sincerity!) We close in the name of Jesus Christ because he is our advocate with the Father. We are separated from God except through him, and this is the way he said to do it. The final component of prayer that is often missing is listening. Have you ever had a one sided conversation, pouring your heart out to someone who is more interested in Monday night football or reading a book or is self absorbed? Prayer should not be like that. It is a two way street, and as we draw close to God, he draws close to us. If you want to know more, there are some good resources at http://www.lds.org.
  • God is love. Love requires a lover, and the person being loved, therefore a plurality of persons. Persons can converse with one another. Hence, the Son conversing with the Father.
  • Well actually Jesus is the son of God.. Thats why jesus prayed... anymore questions??
  • Because He is also fully man, the only man who always did what God wanted him to do.
  • alot of the reason Jesus walked among us was to show example...HE was in HIS darkest hour praying at Gethsame before HIS crucifixition, literally sweating blood, this was a good example for us, we go to God in our darkest hours for strength, courage and wisdom....silent prayer our hearts can kneel anywhere, anytime... this is my reasoning....
  • he didnt need to because he was god. but he did so because he was showing obedience to the fallen flesh of the body. this is the best answer you will get, as it is the only answer.
  • Jesus wasn't God incarnate. Jesus is the son of God - and Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit make up the Holy Trinity. Jesus is Lord.
  • you make a great point. Jesus was only the son of God and never claimed to be God
  • God the Son was praying to God the father. God is love, and love requires a subject and an object. This love exists within the plurality of persons that exist within the one being of God. These persons also converse, as seen many times in scripture.
  • Well yeah i worship jesus but i worship God and Mother Mary and all the saints..
  • Well im Catholic... and catholic does worship God mostly but we pray to Mother Mary and the saints too.. :)
  • to hedge the odds in his favor.
  • Jesus was not God and is not God. The 2 are distinct individuals. John 17:3 indicates this clearly when it states "This means everlasting life their taking in knowledge of you the only true God "and" of the one whom you sent forth Jesus Christ"
  • He Wasnt Praying, he bent over to tie his shoes. that is all
  • God is a God of communication. He is also three-in-one. In Genesis 1:1, we read that Elohim (the original title for God amongst the Jews said "Let US create man in OUR own image". It was normal for Jesus to communicate with His Father when He was in heaven. Being on earth did not stop this communication, except for one brief period- that of his death. When he was on the cross, he cried out "My God, my God why have you forsaken me? (echoing the words of Psalm 22). He was experiencing the consequences of the sin of the whole world- being cut off from the Father. He was also setting an example for humans in the constancy of His communication with His Father. The Apostles stress this (eg Ephesians 6:18,) Jesus was also the Perfect Man, while on earth, because only the Perfect Man could pay for the sins of all imperfect humans. So, even if he had not needed to pray, (which he did because He loves His Father), He would have done anyway because He was fulfilling his mission.
  • I have found that most who believe Jesus to be God also believe in the trinity doctrine. If the trinity were true, it should be clearly and consistently presented in the Bible. Why? Because, as the apostles affirmed, the Bible is God’s revelation of himself to mankind. And since we need to know God to worship him acceptably,(John 4:24) the Bible should be clear in telling us just who he is.The words "essence" and "nature" and "Trinity" do not appear in the Bible and they are not taught in the Bible. At John 17:3 in a prayer of Jesus to his Father not to himself he cleary distinguished himself from the only true God. Jesus was not and is not God!
  • Rockin' questions!!! My answer is that he was one of the many messiahs running around at the time. No more or less special than the rest. And they needed to pray to look pious. They probably didn't claim to be god that the time - just to have his private phone line.
  • Quite the conundrum you propose here. All I could fathom to guess is that I can't answer this. Would you like to apply for a job with Myth Busters. I'd posit that Jesus was created as a corporeal man and then it's all hazy after that.
  • I am not making a theological doctrine from the verse at John 17:3. The only true God and Jesus are shown as distinct in this verse. The context of John1:1,2 show the same when it states that "the Word was with God" Also Col 1:15 refers to Jesus as "the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature" Rev 3:14 says the same about Jesus "the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God." At 1Cor 11:3 it clearly states "the head of Christ is God" The Bible is very clear on the fact that God and Jesus are not equal.
  • Jesus was the Son of God. So he prayed to chat with Dad yo...
  • If you really want an answer to your question about the devinity of Jesus, then here goes. Christianity during Jesus time did not teach that. Matter of fact Jesus even said that after he was gone, many of his teachings would be corrupted. Notice: "I know that after my going away oppressive wolves will enter in among YOU and will not treat the flock with tenderness, 30 and from among YOU yourselves men will rise and speak twisted things to draw away the disciples after themselves." - ACTS 20:29,30 "However, the inspired utterance says definitely that in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances..." - 1 Timothy 4:1 The Trinity Trinity (definition) – That the Father, the Son (Jesus), and holy ghost are all together god, each eternal, each almighty, and none greater of less than the other. The belief that Jesus Christ is god, is based on the idea of the trinity. But if you take a look at the history of this teaching: First the word trinity or the teaching is never found in the bible. Also the Encyclopaedia Britannica says that the belief of the trinity or that Jesus was god or was part of god did not even exist until two to three hundred years after the death of Jesus. The Encyclopedia Americana says - “Fourth century Trinitarianism was a deviation from early Christian teaching.” This teaching was adopted into “Christianity” from pagan religions from Egypt, Babylon, from Hinduism, and even from the philosopher Plato that taught the trinity belief 400 years before Jesus. Finally the trinity became the central teaching of the church not because of the bible but because of the order of the Roman Emperor Constantine who was pagan himself. He really couldn’t care less about bible teachings but only wanted to end the debate between church leaders to keep unity in his kingdom. After he made that decision in the year 381, anyone that openly disagreed with the trinity were violently persecuted or killed with the permission of the church. Back to the Scriptures After that history lesson In reading the bibles record of Jesus, Jesus never claimed to be God or any part of God. Everything he said about himself indicated that he did not consider himself equal to God in any way – not in power, not in knowledge, or age. The bible calls Jesus “the only-begotten Son” of God (John 1:14; 1 John 4:9) - First off, John 1:18 – “No man has seen God at any time…” (The bible says no man has ever seen god but thousands saw and interacted with Jesus during his earthly life.) - God has no beginning and no end. Psalms 90:2 – “…even from time indefinite to time indefinite you are God.” But the bible says that Jesus was “the firstborn of all creation.” (Colossians 1:15) Also see (Revelation 3:14) Unlike God, Jesus was created and had a beginning. - Notice another scripture. When a man came to fall at Jesus’ feet and then called him “Good Teacher”, Jesus said to him at Mark 10:17, 18 “Why do you call me good? Nobody is good, except one, God.” (If Jesus himself was god would that statement make any sense? Jesus always directed any praise to god, not to himself.) - John 14:28 – “The Father is greater than I.” (Jesus talking) - 1 Corinthians 11:3 - “…the head of every man is Christ, the head of a woman is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.” (The bible always talks of God of being superior in power to Jesus.) - Philippians 2:6 – “…Jesus Christ, who, although he was existing in God’s form (as a spirit in heaven) gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God.” - Also 1 Timothy 2:5 Says that the disciples viewed Jesus as the “one mediator between God and men,” not as God himself. A mediator is obviously someone separate from those who need mediation, not part of one of the two parties that need mediation. ---That’s just a short list of the many accounts since I did want to make this to long--- But the bible is clear and consistent about the relationship of God to Jesus. Jesus Christ always distinguishes himself from God and showed that he never desired to be seen or worshipped as god. That he only wished to do the will of his father. Consider Psalms 83:18 – “That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the most high over all the earth.” Isaiah 12:2 – “Look! God is my salvation. I shall trust and be in no dread; for Jah Jehovah is my strength and my might, and he came to be the salvation of me.” Jesus stressed the importance of his father’s name at John 17:26 – “I have made your name known to them and will make it known.” Even in Jesus model prayer: - Matthew 6:9 – “YOU must pray, then, this way: “Our Father in the heavens let your name be sanctified…” Another thing Many people don’t know that when they say Hallelujah, it means “praise Jah” short for Jehovah. Even Jesus’ name itself means “Jehovah is Salvation” The mother of the prophet Moses was named Jochebed, which means “Jehovah Is Glory” The prophet Joel in the bible, his name means, “Jehovah is God” The prophet Elijah in the bible name means “My God Is Jehovah” Isaiah’s name means “Salvation of Jehovah” Hezekiah, Josiah, Nehemiah, Obadiah, Zechariah and Zephaniah all are well-known Bible names whose meanings involve Jehovah, or Jah, the shorter poetic form of Jehovah’s name. Even many people’s names today have Jehovah in their meaning: Johnson means “Jehovah has favored” The name Jonathan means, “Jehovah has given” Joshua means, “Jehovah is salvation” or “Jehovah rescues” Jacqueline, Jackie, Jacquelyn, John and Jack means, “Jehovah has been gracious” Chanya means “The Grace of Jehovah” Kayla means “Jehovah has given” Joey means "Jehovah increases" Jesse means “Jehovah exists” Jeremiah and Jeremy means “appointed by Jehovah” Josiah means “Jehovah supports” Joe or Joesph means “May Jehovah give increase” Jane, Jan, Janelle, Janet, Janice, Janie, Janine, Joan, Joanne, Jodie, Joni, Jonie, Joanna, Johannah all are variations that mean “Jehovah is gracious” One last thing: Also remember that “god” is not a name, it’s a title. Just like “boy” or “king”, “God” and “Lord” are titles, “God” is anything you choose to worship. Your money can be your “God”, your possessions can be a “God”, but the only God the bible points to is Jehovah, God’s name. ---Explanation of pictures--- -The "Christian" Trinity was just a pagan befief that was incorporated into the church hundreds of years after Christ. The pictures are of the Hundu trinity, then the ancient Egyptian trinity, and finally the "Christian" trinity. -An ancient painting of the scene in Nicaea when Emperor Constantine made his decision-
  • Two reasons. As an example to us, and as a regular means of communication with His Father. Remember, you are human because your father was human. If Jesus' Father is God, what else COULD Jesus be but God?
  • simple. because Jesus was not GOD.
  • Fossil remains-found in the lowermost strata of human thought-have been preserved as "divine" patterns for the ignorant and superstitious of later ages. The simple realities of the earliest times were expressed by [signs] and [symbols], and these have been taken and applied to later thoughts and converted into [Theological] problems and metaphysical mysteries, for which our Theologians have no basis whatsoever, and can only-as they always do-wrangle over "en l'air". They cannot touch solid ground with one foot when they want to kick opponents with the other; and when they try to bite you very viciously, they find that they have only been furnished with a set of [false] teeth. The only possible way of exposing the false pretentions of Theological [dogma] is by explaining them from the root and showing what they meant as mythos. The Orthodox teaching-which is founded on the "Fall of Man"-is shattered evenas a pane of glass is fractured at a blow when once we can apply the Doctrine of Development. Take the doctrine of the Trinity, for instance. Can any Theologian throughout all Christendom, within any degree of rationality, give us any intelligible account of its origin and meaning? Well, not one! For that we must go to MYTHOLOGY, which was earlier than our Theology, and which alone enables us to explain its [primitive] origin and mystery. You only have to turn to the second Book of Esdras to learn that Jesus the Christ, of our canonical gospels, was both [prehistorical] and [pre-Christian]. This is one of the books of the [hidden wisdom] which were rejected and set apart as the APOCRYPHA--considered to be spurious because they opposed the so-called "canonized books".
  • Christianity did not claim Jesus was God, nor did Jesus himself claim it. The idea itself did not even exist until after Constantine accepted Christianity and attempted to merge it with pagan beliefs around 313AD. His version of the religion evolved into what we know as the Roman Catholic church today. The first attempt to "officially" get the idea accepted was the council of Nicea in the year 325AD. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Nicaea There is a difference between what 1st century Christians believed and the Bible states, and what various religions promote. • He was talking to himself, that some times happens to me too :)/-
  • The inter action between God and Jesus clearly show that they are 2 distinct individuals. At Jesus' baptism a voice came from the heavens. It was God's voice saying that Jesus was his beloved son. This again clearly shows that Jesus was not God but his only begotten son. He prayed to his father to communicate with him, to ask for strength to endure and to thank him. The Lord's prayer taught to us by Jesus is a model prayer for us to follow having it come from the heart as Jesus' prayers did.
  • God is Father,Son and holy spirit, Jesus the son chose to strip himself of his heavenly glory and eternal position and count it as nothing for the sake of mankind to come to earth among the sinfullness of humanity to die for us. As part of earthly life Jesus exibited the character and was the perfect example of what God the father desires from all his servants, Jesus although perfectly equal to the father still submitted to him in prayer and obedience. So in short he prayed because he was on the earth and prayer is a two way conversation between man on earth and God in heaven and he also prayed for every reason we pray for, guidence, help, and most importantly a longing to speak with the father.
  • Jesus was God and Gods Son in the same body, out of pure honor and humbleness as a son to a father and our example on earth Jesus prayed to his Father, for Jesus said that his Father was his God and our God and because Jesus's Father was God he prayed to him and we should always pray to Jesus's Father like a good Christian should. If this is medicine for your soul come get more at www.onlyjesusrules.com its good in Jesus...
  • He wanted to set an example for us ; because he knows that is what we need to do. "Follow Him"
  • Christianity says that God was Jesus' son
  • As a Christian I believe the Holy Spirit lives within me. Not because I'm good, but by His grace. That, However doesnt stop me from praying. In the same way, Jesus, who is our example, prayed to that Spirit that dwelled within His flesh. Jesus had a body, which was born without sin. It was spoken into existance in the womb of Mary. Jesus had a soul which was God and a spirit which was God. So God(as always) came to His Word, to indwell His Word, which "was made flesh and dwelt among us" (John 1:14).This was none other than God made manifest in a flesh body, showing the world Himself. He is the perfect example, He was Baptised, as an example, He washed the feet of the saints as an example, etc, etc. This isnt a mystery, it is just scripture.
  • i guess that part christianity must be misinterpreted. that is where faith steps in. we cant explain everything with words. we have to have faith that Jesus was part man and surpreme being.
  • there are many christians who beleive that god the father and jesus christ are separate beings. heavenly father and jesus christ and the holy ghost are one in purpose. we pray to the father in the name of Christ and receive answers to prayers from god through the holy ghost...one purpose, three separate beings. and by the way, to the person that said the good news of the gospel cannot be found any more because it has been changed....yes it had been changed and lost from the earth, but i tell you it has been restored to the earth once again, the Church of Jesus Christ is once again on the earth, the truthfullness of his gospel has been restored through living prophets. - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
  • He also prayed as an example for his disciples so that they would do the same, I think we all know that prayer is the main weapon a Christian has and Jesus wanted to show this through example to his disciples and also to us.
  • As an example for man, through all pains of the flesh.
  • There are two things you must know about this matter, miri baby, if I may. (grins) There are two realms. There is one realm for God, and within it, exists only Himself, and within Himself is the Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, with the angels gathered nearby and flying to and fro from heaven and earth. The other realm is the one where we reside and we cannot fully comprehend the concept of the Trinity, for we do not exist in the other realm. The Trinity communes within Himself, with Himself meaning God, and God meaning the Trinity, for these terms are cyclical and synonymous. In short, we need God which is why we pray, and Jesus was human as we are today, and He needed God, specifically His Father.
  • He was a teacher and he showed the Jews how to pray to God- like the Our Father -
  • Jesus is not God. He is part of God. Father, Son, Holy Spirit. He is the "son" part. He was stuck on this earth with a bunch of stupid, greedy and cruel people... that wanted to kill him. Why wouldn't he pray?
  • Jesus was a man and the Son of God--he had all our frailities and doubts. He was born a Jew and died a Jew--the Last Supper is a celebration of Passover with his Disciples. His followers became known as Christians: followers of the Christ. He prayed to the Father who is Father to us all, as he was taught.
  • Talking to themselves and begging are Christianity's favorite pastimes
  • When Jesus condescended into the world He is both God and man. I can think of two reason why Jesus prayed when He was on earth. (1) In His prayers He communes as God the Son with God the Father. (2) He wanted His disciples to know the importance of prayers and so He set this pattern of life to His people by showing a personal example.
  • Well Jesus was the son of God so he prayed to his father. He was one of the Holy Trinity, where he is a part of God but a seperate entity.
  • Jesus was God but he was also a man and showed respect for His Father.
  • Jesus was God? I thought they were two diffrent 'people' My mum did say to me as you get older you will find out that God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit are all three in one though. Lucifer is three demons in one as well right?
  • What evidence is there that Jesus Christ and God are the same ?
  • You have asked a very pertinent Q. The answer is that He was God, the Son. He prayed to the separate and distinct, God, the Father, who was in Heaven. The very first thing that the modern day prophet Joseph Smith learned upon his visit with God, the father and His Son, Jesus Christ is that each was an express individual. They are, however, One in purpose and in mind on all matters.
  • That would have been a proposterous notion to him I suspect.
  • Some of the others have done a really good job on the Trinity. I would add that the trinity had ALWAYS been in communion, each part with all the others and it didn't stop when one part came to earth. But the other reason Jesus prayed was to teach us. Until Christ, humanity was separated from God. Think of God like a hot stove. If you touch a hot stove, you get burned. A woodstove might be the best image for this analogy. Nearly anywhere you touch a woodstove, you will be harmed. God is so holy that He is like that woodstove. If we touch God in our weak sinful bodies, we will die. This isn't God "smiting" humans, but just the very nature of God. When God spoke to the Hebrews, they were so terrified that they begged Him not to do it anymore, but just to talk to Moses and let him tell them what God said. So for most of history, we couldn't talk to God. We needed an emissary, like Moses or a Levite, to speak for us and bring back the answer. That emissary had to purify himself first, lest he die too. That was the reason for the curtain in the temple: it separated us from the presence of God so that we wouldn't die. The Hebrews were not accustomed to talking to God in a familiar way. Jesus came and died for our sins so that we can be close to God and talk to God without an emissary. If we ask Jesus into our hearts, then He is in us and we are in Him. In this unique place, we are able to talk directly to God. But because this was something new, Jesus had to teach us how to do it. He said, When you pray, pray like this, Abba (daddy) in heaven, hallowed by thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever, AMEN. He was teaching us all the elements of prayer. And our unique position within Jesus is the reason the curtain in the temple tore from top to bottom in the instant Jesus died. There was no longer any reason for separation between humanity and God. We no longer needed that protection. We are now able to speak to God without dying.
  • Don't say he was a god according to Christianity. Christians do not agree on this. Because someone is a "follower" of Jesus does not make him a god. Because they say the Lord's Prayer, as Jesus taught, does not make him a god.
  • Dad was 'Upstairs' yo...:)
  • As far as I remember now, MOST accounts of him praying mentioned that he was alone, in the desert and the kind. Then, who was there to report 150 years after to the Greek-speaking authors of the gospels?
  • He talked to His Father. That is what praying is for me!
  • To teach others how to pray to his father.
  • Because he was the son. He talked to his Father as yo would yours!
  • The Bible does not refer to Jesus as God but rather as his only begotten son.Jesus taught us the Lord's prayer(Matt 6:9-13) and it is a model prayer from which we can see what Jesus considered as a priority when praying. The first priority is the sanctification of His(God's) name and then God's purpose for this earth and those who live on it.We should always remember to thank God for all He does for us and to also ask for forgiveness as we are all sinners.Jesus instructed us not to reiterate this as such but to pray from the heart(Matt6:5,6)
  • Good Question. I'm a Submitter; Like Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Mohamed, I submit to God's Words (The Bible, The Torah, and the Quran). Here is the Story of Jesus (Peace Be upon Him): 3:45 And the angels said: ‘O Mary, God gives good news of a word from Him. His name is the Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary. Honorable in this world and in the Hereafter, and from among those who are made close.’ 3:46 “And he will speak to the people from the cradle and to middle-age, and is from among the upright.” 3:47 She said: ‘My Lord, how can I have a son when no human has touched me?’ He said: ‘It is thus that God creates what He wills, when He decrees a command, He merely says to it ‘Be,’ and it is.’ 3:48 And He teaches him the Scripture and the Wisdom and the Torah and the Injeel. 3:49 And as a messenger to the Children of Israel: ‘I have come to you with a sign from your Lord; that I create for you from clay the form of a bird, then I blow into it and it becomes a bird by God’s leave, and I heal the blind and the leapers, and give life to the dead by God’s leave, and I prophesize for you what you shall eat and what to store in your homes. In that is a sign for you if you are believers.’ 3:50 “And authenticating what is present with me of the Torah, and to make lawful some of that which was forbidden to you; and I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so be aware of God and obey me.” 3:51 “God is my Lord and your Lord, so serve Him, this is a Straight Path.” http://free-minds.org/forum/
  • Geez ya know, it's questionable about whether all the authors of the gospels believed that Jesus was God, or whether he ever even said he was, or if that aspect of Christianity had even been developed when the gospels were written...there's just too much confusion. Just treat the New Testament like Beowulf or the Jack and the Beanstalk story.
  • Jesus said that we are all one, we're all the same and that we're all apart of a greater force (God, if you want to call it that), when we become Self-realized, we experience life as God (all loving, forgiving, compassionate, etc...), we realize there is no separation between us and this magnificent force, it's just a matter of tapping into it and discovering it. You will find this evident in other religions and basically ANY self-help/personal-development philosophy... this concept it said in many different way for the many different levels of understanding. Speaking of prayer, prayer is basically a form of getting in touch with the pure, positive energy that exists everywhere... it's like putting yourself in the flow. If you study other religions out there, you'll see a common pattern that most every philosopher or prophet has recognized, which is that humans battle the forces of the ego which separates us from the divine. The act of prayer is form of surrender and a way of moving the ego aside. Since Jesus was human, he participated in this act as well. Jesus was a human-being, just like everyone else. What he was saying, and what Christians don't get, is that we are ALL divine/Godly creatures. All of us. Jesus emphasized that we have the power within us to do as he did, he was an EXAMPLE for us to follow if we so choose, if it compels us.
  • To show us all how it is supposed to be done. Unfortunately, no one listened.
  • Well obviously nothing. I think I'll refer moosemose back to his section regarding praying for maturity. :) Still, great question Miri :)
  • We need stop looking at it from a religious aspect, prayer is having communion with God. Imagine building a relationship with someone without talking!!, how would yo tell them how you felt, your problems or what you felt towards them etc. The bible tells us we those who believe in me (JESUS) are SONS OF GOD. This is the main reason, although there are many others reasons for praying including the power of prayer but returning to the question at the beginning, Jesus prayed because he needed time with his Father especially when he was weak, (GETHSEMANI)
  • This is the whole reason why Jesus died for us, so that, by repenting we can be forgiven, but this is only possible because Jesus payed the price on the cross. he payed for our sins. Before Jesus died for us the only way to be forgiven was through sacrifice and obeying the law which knowone was able to do. Sins mean "seperated from God" Sin is what seperates us from the presence of God.
  • Jesus and the Father together are God. Consider God like a last name. Jesus would pray to God because (1) This sets the example for man (2) Jesus in the flesh is vulnerable and needs constant faith in the Father to do his bidding. Some people may disagree and say that Jesus is all powerful and he could raise legions to His aid, which is true, but that would defeat the purpose of why He came to die on Earth in the first place. Secondly, because Jesus was made of flesh, He was tempted by Satan, as a baby He had to be protected by angels from Herod, His Faith in the Lord kept Him on the straight path before the crucifixion. The night of His capture in the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed feverishly before God. Can you imagine what it would be like the night before you're supposed to be executed? Jesus needed the Father in order to do what He was a bout to do. It was much to easy for Him to get up and run away. Here's a pretty good site that explains that: http://www.thercg.org/books/ttjc.html
  • "Jesus was the Son of God in the flesh, Jesus was human! Jesus would pray to the actual creator of Mother earth, he would pray to that certain positive entity/energy that truly adores us!!!"
  • He prayed bec. he became a human. God becomes a son for salvation purpose. God is one. the Father, the Son and the Holy spirit. Humans sinned so God as spirit must become human. God cannot condemn sin in Spirit bec. God is Spirit. And the one (Adam) who sinned was in human form. Just like us who keep on sinning. Salvation comes from the Lord. So He must become us. God is in the Spiritual realm and He crossed over from spiritual world to physical world where humans are living. and God says in Gen.3:15 the seed (Jesus)of the woman(human)will crush the head (Authority)of the serpent. It is human who will defeat Satan. Bec, the war broke out bet. satan and Humans. Satan was already defeated in spritual world. That's why he sought to defeat the kingdom of men. It was entrusted to Adam to rule the world but when he listened to Snake/satan it was transfered to satan.Eventually Christ came to the world to defeat satan in Human form. He didn't use his Godly power. Only by dying on the cross as a sacrifice for the sin of the world.
  • "He was just a messenger for "God" like an Angel!!!"
  • It says in the beginning was the word and and he was the word. And Jesus says that he is the way the truth and the light that no one goes to the Fathet except through him! So that it's self puts in a seperation! Plus their are so many factions of Christianity and some are not speaking the TRUTH!!!
  • The teaching that Jesus is God is false. Jesus is the SON of ALMIGHTY GOD. And ALMIGHTY GOD has a NAME... (Exodus 6:3) And I used to appear to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God Almighty, but as respects my name Jehovah I did not make myself known to them. There is a clear distinction between NAME and TITLE. Jesus was in fact created by his Father, Jehovah. Proverbs 8; 22-31. It is the mistaken so called leaders of the mainline churches that are in fact doing Satan's will by being confusing. They simply do not try to understand exactly what the Bible teaches...
  • I would put the question...WHO was it that Jesus was praying to...It surely could not be himself because this would make him the ultimate split personality...which is what the false trinity tries to put across. Simply, Jesus was praying for strength, for ALMIGHTY GOD'S POWER, to survive his ordeal. Jesus was praying to his Father. THEY ARE TWO SEPARATE INDIVIDUALS. Jesus was CREATED by his Father... (Proverbs 8:22-31) “Jehovah himself produced me as the beginning of his way, the earliest of his achievements of long ago. 23 From time indefinite I was installed, from the start, from times earlier than the earth. 24 When there were no watery deeps I was brought forth as with labor pains, when there were no springs heavily charged with water. 25 Before the mountains themselves had been settled down, ahead of the hills, I was brought forth as with labor pains, 26 when as yet he had not made the earth and the open spaces and the first part of the dust masses of the productive land. 27 When he prepared the heavens I was there; when he decreed a circle upon the face of the watery deep, 28 when he made firm the cloud masses above, when he caused the fountains of the watery deep to be strong, 29 when he set for the sea his decree that the waters themselves should not pass beyond his order, when he decreed the foundations of the earth, 30 then I came to be beside him as a master worker, and I came to be the one he was specially fond of day by day, I being glad before him all the time, 31 being glad at the productive land of his earth, and the things I was fond of were with the sons of men. This is not just the quality of WISDOM...because how can a quality have a quality...like fondness.
  • IMO: God is not limited like a person, He is infinite and all-powerful. The parts of the Trinity are all God, but do not have to be all limited to the same consciousness - The parts of the Trinity can act and think independently. The benefit of this is that Jesus experienced life as a genuine human, learning and thinking and feeling just like the rest of us do. He was truly human.
  • Because when he was on the Earth he was a human being. Just like the kingdom of God is within every person but we still pray to God because we are living in flesh right now.
  • not god he is son of god.4
  • 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. Galatians 1:11-12 I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that the Bible was "breathed out" by God. Galatians 1: 11-12 tells us that the gospel was a revelation from Jesus Christ himself, which was recorded by Jesus disciples and Paul. God himself chose the disciples and the people whom He knew were going to spread His word and write the Bible. The Bible was written by approximately 40 men of diverse backgrounds over the course of 4000 years. Despite being penned by different authors over 40 centuries, the Bible does not contradict itself and does not contain any errors. The authors all present different perspectives, but they all proclaim the same one true God, and the same one way of salvation—Jesus Christ (John 14:6; Acts 4:12). In John 8:58 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!" The above verse speaks a lot about who Jesus really is. All about Jesus and the Holy Trinity explained in the below website. http://jesustrinity.blogspot.com Lots of videos, sermons, songs are also present, along with all of Jesus miracles, his parables, and questions on his birth, crucifixion, resurrection are answered. Many major questions on Christianity are answered with lot of examples that cannot be denied by anyone, such as, 1) Did Jesus really exist? Is He God? Why did He suffer on the Cross? 2) What is so special about Jesus? Why cant I just view him as an ordinary man or a teacher or a prophet? Why should I see him as God? Pasting a small part from the website. Visit the website to strengthen your faith in Jesus or to know more about Him. Jesus is God. 1.Thomas calls Jesus God in John 20:28 (Note, Thomas addresses Jesus specifically.) 2. Jesus is God in Heb. 1:8 3. John the apostle states that Jesus was the Word which was God that became flesh (John 1:1-14) 4. The phrase "Call upon the name of the LORD" (Hebrew, YHWH, i.e., Psalm 116:4) used only of God on the OT, and translated into the Greek in the LXX as "Call upon the name of the LORD (greek, KURIOS)," applied to Jesus in the NT (1 Cor. 1:2) Jesus is God in flesh 5. The apostle John says that Jesus was , "…calling God His own Father, making Himself equal to God," (John 5:18) 6. Jesus said that He and the Father are One (John 10:30), that caused the Pharisees to claim that Jesus was making Himself out to be God. 7. Jesus knew all things (John 21:17) 8. Jesus knew all men (John 16:30) 9. Jesus is everywhere (Matt. 28:20) 10. Jesus Christ, dwells in you (Col. 1:27) 11. Jesus is the exact representation of the Nature of God (Heb. 1:3) 12. Jesus is eternal (Micah 5:1-2) 13. Jesus gives eternal life (John 10:27-28) 14. Jesus is our only Lord and Master (Jude 4) 15. Jesus is called the Mighty God (Isaiah 9:6) 16. Jesus is called the Mighty God (Isaiah 9:6) and "God" also be called the Mighty God in Isaiah 10:21 17. Jesus is able to raise Himself from the dead (John 2:19-21) 18. Jesus created all things (Col. 1:16-17), it is God who created all things by Himself (Isaiah 44:24) 19. Jesus searches the hearts and minds of the people (Rev. 2:23) 20. Jesus is worshiped (Matt. 2:2-11; Matt.14:33; Matt.28:9; John 9:35-38; Heb. 1:6) Only God can be worshipped (Matt. 4:10) (same Greek word for worship is used in each place.) 21. In the OT God was seen (Exodus 6:2-3;Exodus 24:9-11; Num. 12:6-9; Acts7:2), yet no man can see God (Exodus 33:20; John 1:18). It was not the Father that was seen in the OT (John 6:46). Who, then were they seeing? See John 8:58. 22. Jesus claimed the divine name, "I AM", for Himself in John 8:58 see Exodus 3:14. 23. Jesus says you must honor him even as you honor the Father (John 5:23). 24. Jesus gives life (John 5:21). 25. Jesus bears witness of Himself (John 8:18;John 14:6). 26. Jesus is the One who will judge you on judgement day (John 5:22-23). Only God can be the judge. 27. Jesus forgives sins (Luke 5:20) (Luke 24:47,Acts 10:43) .Only God can forgive sins. http://jesustrinity.blogspot.com
  • I don't know about you, but I talk to myself all the time.
  • A lot of what Jesus did sets an example to others for what is the right thing to do. So when he prayed, and people wrote about it in the Bible, then we get to read it and find out that it's the suggested thing to do in times of trouble, gratitude, or doubt.
  • The Bible teaches (and Jesus taught during his time on the earth as is documented in the Bible) that Jesus was "cut off" from his Father while he was here on this earth. He had to pray to his Father, just as we do. Therefore, Jesus prayed. This seems like a simplified answer but this is the most simply way to answer the question.
  • He says "I do not do this for my own purpose, but so that you may learn." He wanted to set an example. Another reason is that in his humanity, Jesus felt many emotions. Although he is God incarnate, he at many times felt fear, anguish, especially knowing the burden he was going to carry, these feelings were part of the suffering he had. So in his HUMANITY, it provided comfort for him to Pray to his father, who is his original "dwelling place" before all ages.
  • Jesus IS GOD, who is the Trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, all in one. As the SON of GOD, He prayed to the Father.
  • Because he was narcissistic. Who else would claim to know everything and be more powerful than everyone? If I did that, would you consider me god? +3
  • What do you think praying is, its just talking, Jesus was talking to God.
  • Bob Dole/Deion Sanders syndrome.
  • Jesus was God in ((human)) form but also the son of God sent to earth to carry out His Fathers plan to eternaly save the human race. Jesus Christ not only prayed to His Heavenly Father for stength...(as a human), But to set an example for the rest of us(as humans) to follow.
  • He was merely phoning home.
  • "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ," (1 Peter 1:3) "That men may know that you, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, are the most high over all the earth." (Psalms 83:18) Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." (Matthew 16:16)
