  • If you are not a member of the Catholic Church or local Diocese, you will have to attend what is called "Pre Canna". It is basically a day long retreat with your fiance. There, they will counsel you on getting married in the catholic church. I had to go through this years ago. The best thing to do is speak with your fiance's priest, and he will give you all the info.
  • Typically a pre-canna class or workshop and counseling sessions with members of the church. Additionally you have to agree to raise your children in the catholic church as well.
  • You will have to at least attend classes about the Catholic faith and agree to raise your children Catholic. Some priests will not marry you if you don't convert so ask his parish priest what he allows. It's not the same everywhere.
  • Think seriously before you take on a religion because you love someone. I know a guy who was living with a gal and all of a sudden she got all religious and threw him out. He converted to this Christadelphian religion and then they get married and she wasn't even that serious in the religion anymore. Do some research and see if you really want to convert to being Catholic.
  • You do not need to convert to get married in a Catholic Church if you are marrying a Catholic. You can take the pre-Cana classes and get permission/dispensation from the diocese for a Catholic to marry a non-Catholic. If you are sure you want to convert, you must also take classes. If you are baptized, you will have to go to confession and confess all your sins since baptism before you are confirmed and have your 1st holy communion. If you are not, you will probably be baptized, confirmed and receive your 1st holy communion all at once during an Easter Vigil. Again, I would only go through the conversion process if you are absolutely sure, since Vatican II the church has fully allowed mixed-religon marriages. Good luck to you!
