  • Depends on the situation. I loath it when used in formal letters unless they are first defined. Generally I try and avoid them. Unless I am texting which has reduced space so then they make sense.
  • In a place like this, I find them annoying and a sign of laziness or a lack of education on the part of the person who is using them. I can see their use in situations where text space is limited. However, they are unnecessary with your question. I realize that you were most likely using them to make a point here, but in general I don't like them. There are too many people who are lazy about their English these days.
  • They're okay, as long as people understand the meaning.
  • 2 shrt
  • One or two is okay, but when the whole passage is in some obscure shorthand..I find it to be a bit irritating.
  • If you're texting, no problem. The small screen and the fact that it's in real-time make it necessary. Elsewhere, it can be annoying. Some common phrases are all right, such as IMHO and AFAIK, but otherwise keep it to a minimum.
  • The limit of characters for text and SMS's i see it useful. On a site like this I see no reason to type like that. Its just bad English/grammar and can be at time very difficult to understand. We don't need full stories in the question section. I think 255 characters are good enough for any question almost. - In the end it is up to the person asking the question. Usually I just skip over those types of questions. So if they want my answer (and I think others feel the same). Put the extra time to type up the question properly. - If you can type Dat I dont get it do they not know where the 'H' key is? They already know where the T and A are. lol -
  • On this website I find it kind of irritating.
  • sometimes irritating..but sometimes (as on AB questions) you have to in order to ask a full question.
  • not friendly.
  • It annoys be because how long would it take to type a few extra letters in?
  • this question isn't subtle enough to warrant a response. <.<
  • I think that essentially lazy people do it. Or they may be simply covering their lack of education/spelling ability. It seems to be mostly a kids thing. It seems to be the "style" now on open chat. I can see where it might be helpful when you are typing fast. But it is out of place anywhere else.
  • confusing!! It took me way to long to decipher it!! But since you were asking, and I knew you weren't a moron, I decided to answer.
