I like chess although I am not a great player. I would certainly think that the strategy needed in Chess would make it a much more challenging game.

Chess is by far the more difficult to achieve any sort of ability with. It's variety of pieces and their individual moves is far more complex, and therefore far more difficult. Don't believe your friend. I'm tired and it's late, (and my maths is rubbish) but this can be proven fairly easily mathematically.

Chess is a more challenging game. It is all strategy which is hard to think up.

I've always preferred chess, and even though checkers is simple in it's rules, it is still a very intense strategy game. I was never good at checkers and am decent at chess. Chess might be more challenging just on the basic fact that the rules are more complex with different movement, etc. Both are great games though.

Chess by a long way. There are loads of strategies, chess openings, and a better variety of moves. Checkers is great fun, but im the same as you, im a chess player who gets beaten when I play draughts.
