  • Faith is the substance of things hoped for. The evidence of things not seen.
  • The Bible describes faith as being neither blind nor illogical. God’s Word says: “Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.”—Hebrews 11:1. At the time of the writing of the Bible book of Hebrews, the Greek term translated “assured expectation” was commonly used. It often appeared in business documents and carried the idea of a guarantee of future possession of something. Therefore, one reference work suggests that Hebrews 11:1 could be translated: “Faith is the title-deed of things hoped for.” For more information on this subject please visit wwwjworg.
  • I generally hear it when the belief itself is what's important to someone. While they may still value having reasons for it, they come second. I feel like this works for anything from religion, self image, world view, and even interpersonal relationships. "I'm saved", "I'm a good person", "This is the way things should be", "I'm loved"... I don't mean it to reflect how true these things are likely to be, only that it is really important for many people that these things are true. So we're likely to lean hard in that direction even before we ever examine these things critically.
