  • She went to Greece and became a Nun and gave her mother full custody of her child but she can't ever come to America but her mother can go over there to make visits to her and allow her to see the child ?
  • No, I don't "find this possible". Greece does not incarcerate its nuns. IF the girl wants to leave the nunnery, she can. IF the girl wants to return to the U.S., she can work and scrimp and save and earn enough to do so, and she will NOT be prevented by the Greek government and she will NOT be prevented by the U.S. government.

  • Maybe I'm old school, but I don't think women who have had children can be nuns. It's against their vow of celibacy (or don't nuns take this vow anymore?).

No, it's never been against that. Nuns - like Roman Catholic priests for the last thousand years or so - only vow to be celibate once they've "taken their vows". In BOTH cases there is no mandate or requirement for celibacy PRIOR to taking a religious vow of celibacy. Indeed: historically widows and unmarried mothers often joined a convent, and widowers often joined a monastery or became priests.

  • I believe what www.bible-reviews.com wrote. ie "Greece does not incarerate iits nuns...... not be prevented by the US and Greek govt from coming back. "

This girl I went to school and graduated with lived in America and gave her mom full custody of the child she had out wedlock and she decided to go to Greece and become a Nun and live there from what her mother said, the family can visit her over Greece but she can't come back to America

There may be other issues involved.

I'd guess this is "She can't come back to America if she wants to remain a nun" (i.e. she's a cloistered nun, where the nuns don't leave the convent or abbey) and not "She can't come back to America because the law prevents her from doing so" and not "She can't come back to America because the nuns are holding her against her will".
