  • When I was a kid I didn't know what my mother paid for canned vegies. Now candy bars came in only one size and cost five cents at the movie theater. I was given 25 cents per week allowance. with that it cost me 9 cents to go to the Saturday matinee, two movies three or four cartoons and the serial. a box of popcorn was a dime, candy bar a nickel leaving me with a penny which I went to the drug store and bought a piece of Double Bubble gum for 1 cent. I couldn't wait until the next Saturday to get my quarter and do it all over again.
