Archie Bunker Don't rely on TV to define "conservative" for you. If you read the US Constitution, and adhere to it, you're a conservative. If you believe in the free market, you're a conservative. If you believe in limited government, you're a conservative. That's a good place to start.

Cry me a River One party is always slamming the other for their own backbone and pride. Not because they believe in their party so much as they want to be noticed.. and the people follow suit,, just notice me,, not for what I believe,, but just for the very sake of being noticed?!?

"Conservative" and "liberal" are adjectives. Specifically in a political sense, semantically, conservatives are thought to prefer things the way they are or used to be, and liberals prefer to change things into a newer, but less well-understood state. Colloquially, though, this is pretty far from the actual case. There are two main political parties in the USA - Republicans and Democrats. Many people use "conservative" interchangeably with Republican. The Republican party is a huge mess right now, just like the Democratic party, but anyone identifying with "conservative" is generally now going to agree with every policy the party pursues. Some folks might be fiscally conservative, but socially liberal; others might be socially conservative and fiscally liberal.
