  • It's no longer being taught in the Shelby County schools here in Alabama. But it is needed. Even I have trouble reading the old genealogical records written in cursive that we are indexing into the database systems.

      It was kind of cool translating the draft records and entering that information. It was kind of sad though knowing how many of them died without ever having any family.

      One of my friends became a natural part of our big family. It was just he and his mom growing up. To this day he is still friends with me and 2 of my sisters. Can't imagine how it would be without that lively household.

      I had many fountain pens over the years, some with calligraphy nibs. Making letters like art helped slow down the busy mind and sometimes turned into poetry. That kind of flow doesn't happen while typing out letters on the computer.

      I gave birth to one son, but I have many children! They tend to find me if they need me!

      My Grandfather did calligraphy but I found it easier to write with an editor so I could more easily rephrase and get exactly the right words I wanted without having to start over every time.

      Not online. I did my youngest sisters wedding invitations. The rest are here and there in paper journals .Not sure the larger artistic community would appreciate the looseness of the letters and lines. There was one book The Art of Hand Lettering that showed different styles repeating the phrase" Always Endeavor to find Interesting Variations"

      You could scan them or take a photo to upload. It would be nice to preserve it for future generations and friends to see.
  • I haven't seen anything handwritten in cursive in about thirty years.

  • We had. a 19 year old intern in our office. She could neither read nor write cursive. We had to print notes to her. It was like dealing with an illiterate.
