  • One above flood zone. haha I stayed just outside french quarter that was nice. I live in Lake Charles the best way is to check school ditricts usually the better school is, the better the neighborhood is.
  • try around laplace,la which is north of the bonne carre spillway..close enogh to the city but far enough away...
  • Mandeville, across Pontchartrain on the north shore. Not badly damaged by Katrina and enjoying full services and utilities. Start looking at Beau Chene, a gated community with golf courses and nicely controlled environment. Houses are very reasonable and come and go on the market, and some of them were custom-built with extra amenities.
  • garden district is nice...pricy though. Or up town.
  • You said you are relocating to NEW ORLEANS, Not NEAR New Orleans like these other commenters are thinking ! READ THE QUESTION ! The best area by far i think is uptown. It has an intimate and closeknit type of neighborhood feel i think you would love. check anywhere in the Garden district to upper and lower Carrolton.
