Get a GPS system that is fully charged. Watch out for soundless falling trees and defecating bears that don't use Northern Quilted TP though. If a wicked looking witch invites you into her home, don't go by all means.

In the northern hemisphere moss grows on the north side of the tree and vice versa for the southern hemisphere. So merely follow on of the four compass directions and you will find a path or the edge, at least that way you won't be going around in circles! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moss

Presuming the woods where you are is full of trees blocking your view in every direction I'd see if you could find a trail that leads to a destination out of the wooded area.
