    What is HESI?

HESI stands for Health Education Systems Inc. and is located in Houston, Texas.

    Frequency

Depending on the college/university, the HESI nursing exam is normally taken several times throughout the nursing program. The first test is taken generally by sophomores in order to gain acceptance into the college of nursing. The second test is taken during the junior year, as part of a clinical course. The last HESI exam is taken prior to graduation.

    Passing

The HESI exam needs to be passed all three times, however there are a few differences in the passing criteria. In order to pass the first test, a score of 80 percent or above must be scored. On the second test, a certain amount of points must be scored. The final test also requires a certain amount of points to be scored, however this test allows for three attempts to pass.

    Cost

The cost of all three exams differ. The entrance exam is $25, the second test costs $37, and the exit exam is $35.

    Preparing

HESI provides a study guide for the entrance exam that is available for purchase on their website. Schools that administer the HESI nursing exam most often provide review sessions for the test.
