Trampolines are a part of the USA Gymnastics program that begins training for children at ages 7 to 12 years old to begin to build skills and strength in youngsters. They are also a tool often used for stimulation of their senses and helping them to control their body's reaction to sensory experiences, along with providing pressure they may crave. However, proper safety precautions should always be taken.

On the Other: Dangers of Trampolines

The Consumer Product Safety Commission released a safety alert concerning trampolines and children, stating that 93 percent of all injuries and accidents on them happened to youths under the age of 15. The recommendation is to keep children under the age of 6 off trampolines. The basis is that 11 percent of the victims of accidents or death involved children under 5 years old.

    Bottom Line

Trampolines have benefits for children of the appropriate age when used for exercise and to have a healthy way to get rid of extra energy. The Consumer Product Safety Commission gives a few tips when using a trampoline at home, including: one person on at a time; no somersaults; cover springs, frame and hooks with padding; no children under 6; and maintain constant supervision when children are on it. Prevention using these factors can reduce the safety hazards.
