  • And what's the reason to believe?
  • lack of evidence and all the harm religion causes the world. i dont bomb buildings or go on crusades to protect my lack of belief
  • IT's not that I have a reason NOT to believe in gods, it's that I haven't found any strong reasons/arguments/evidence TO believe in gods.
  • Wrong question. Not believing is the default option. There is an infinite amount of things that in theory one could believe in. It's economical to not believe in them as long as there is no evidence. There is no evidence for God, or at least, I have not yet been confronted with any, therefore, I'm an atheist. For the same reason I don't believe in unicorns.
  • Same as your reason not to believe in fantasy creatures.
  • Any being that is "all powerful" would not need to be worshiped by the lesser beings that it creates. Imagine a genetic engineering scientist who just made a vial of a new bacterium and then stood around for all eternity demanding that they worship him. And any being that is infinitely wise and kind would not create mankind and then just wake up one morning and decide that they're all wicked and destroy them all (except Noah). Any being that sees all does not need you to pray, it would have to already know your thoughts before you pray. On the other hand, humans who want to inflate their egos and their wallets have much to gain by telling you that there is an invisible all-powerful being on THEIR side. Thus they can use your belief to coerce you into doing what they say, and giving them your money.
  • I believe in the Tooth Fairy because of real money left under my pillow, and Santa Clause because of real presents left under the tree, and also the Sandman because of the little grit in the corner of my eye in the morning, but there is totally no evidence that any god still exists. There are rumors that God use to drop in on people and talk to them, use magic to burn a bush, and wrestle with them all day, but that was thousands of years ago. The only tangible thing God ever left behind were those stone tablets with one of several versions of ten commandments on them but where are they now? I'm thinking it's all nothing more than folk lore...
  • The same as your reason not to believe in Santa Clause or the Tooth Fairy. (You know...I`ve had a couple of DR`s for this answer now. Whats the point in asking an atheist to answer this question unless your prepared for an atheist answer?)
  • I don't believe in invisible entities just because others are passionate about them. Religious people have always hurt my feelings. They are generally cruel and mean spirited. Atheists don't care what you believe and don't look for converts. If you want to hear vile and ugly responses criticise a Christian.
  • Well the inescapable fact that God doesn't exist for one thing. --------------------- http://godisimaginary.com/
  • There is no reason why I should believe.
  • Who wants to beileve in a floating invisible guy in the sky, whos watching everything you do, say, and think, and judging you on that? This 'god' has ten rules and if you break one of them then he will send you to a firey inferno where you will spend interneting burning... but he loves you??? Yeah i dont think so.
  • The fact that no one has ever offered a reason that isn't a logical fallacy dressed up as "proof."
  • seing a group of christains attack and bully people and myself in my school and community was enough to doubt their/my relgion...and as for god or God I belive that its humans who are the gods... what else would you call a maniac trying to abuse you as a child
  • Lack of evidence/proof. I'm on the fence, like always. Life is a journey not a destination. I most likely won't decide for years and years to come, if I do before I die.
  • I see no reason to believe in a god.
  • What would be a reason to believe in something like that? Why don't you believe in the Tooth Fairy assuming that you don't believe in it.
  • The simplest and most obvious one: there's zero credible evidence in support of the God Hypothesis.
  • Purely and simply to upset you Anil - it seems that you are all consumed by our lack of faith....
  • we as humans try to understand the world around us, why we are here,HOW we are here and every other question ever mentioned, we try to understand something and we think we do when really we dont, we wont ever know the truth. Even the great Albert Einstein said no one will ever know everything about everything.
  • because he/she doesn't exist. People forge their god of their hearts. it is said that religion is the opium of the people, and this is true. We prefer to forge something to believe in instead of looking inside ourselves.
  • Because that is the default setting of a logical mind. Until something says "Here is credible, testable evidence to support the claim of the existence of a supernatural deity", there is no reason TO believe in one.
  • There’s too many of them. Too many people have died in the name of “God’. Each one claims to be the only true religion/ Arrogant Self-righteousness Each faction cannot agree on their dogma: (Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, etc., etc.), (Sunni, Shi’a, etc. etc.), (Orthodox, Unorthodox, etc. etc.), Etc. Etc. Etc. They all borrow from each other: Virgin Births/ Magical conceptions, Born on Dec 25, Parting of waters, Walking on water, Resurrections/Reincarnation, Etc. Etc. Etc. They have no explanation for their ideological short comings: The world not being flat, Fossils, Stars being galaxies, Burning witches, Etc. Etc. Etc.
  • Christians: What's your reason not to believe in Buddha, Zeus, Odin, Gaia, Mithra, Kali, The Monkey King, ... ? I just do not believe in your particular God either.
  • if you do not belive in God you have to belive that the world was by chance put in space by the way if we were any closer to the sun we would be burned if we were any father away we would freeze. you would have to belive that it just happened that if one of a girl's egg producers was dameged that it just happened that the other egg producer does it's work too. you would have to belive that it just happened that a girrafe's heart beats realy hard so that it can pump up it's long neak. and it just so happened that mayebe that our skin has streacheness and it very strong and that the ear has the pefect hearing ability if we could hear any more we would never get rest. If you belive that we came from mud well i think ill make sum mud, wait a year and get a football stadium. cool! use your head look on the web sight called, Answers in Genesis! or you could belive we came from mud and explain your resoning in front of the throne of God some day. The choice is yours.
  • i think i can answer this with a question. Deists: What's your reason not to believe in leprechauns, unicorns, orc's, monsters? and i could literally go on for the rest of this page....
  • For Atheists there is no God period.
  • Because I have no proof of him, plain and simple. If we were sitting in an empty room and I told you there is a dog in here. You would say I cannot see, hear, smell a dog so there is no dog. If I then told you to have faith you would say that is silly because beliving in a dog is not going to make it appear.
  • Every religion that has proposed to me that god exists has also tried to make me believe in things that are proven to be untrue. A 4000 year old earth, man being created in the form that he is now, etc. etc. The credibility of these texts as *literal* truths is therefore completely wrecked. Now, if you interpret religious texts as allegory, there is a lot of truth to be found in any of them. Once you start to take these texts as symbolic, however, it calls into question the very meaning of the name God.
  • Cause they believe in Huxley and Darwin and theirself. Atheist's have a philosophical assumption, which makes it almost impossible for them to exchange their belief system to come to Jesus. What's weird, is it's so easy, a caveman can do it. Get Jesus, it's hell w/o Him. examine a few facts below. -------------------------------------------------- Why you can believe the Bible and since the Bible is true, then you can believe in God,because the Bible speaks of Him existing. This is based on the history of the King James 1611AV Bible. Other versions (233 DIFFERENT versions on the market), ALL are proven to be from corrupt MSS (manuscripts). 1. It doesn't demand blind faith. For faith to be of any value, it must be based on facts, on reality. 2. Ancient history supports the Bible's accuracy. 3. The Gospels provide reliable accounts of Jesus. 4. Archaeology Science backs up Biblical accounts. 5. Textual scholarship confirms the Bible. 6. The Bible is true to it's original form because: a. we have such a hugh number of MSS copies, over 24,000. b. these copies agree with each other 99.5%. c. the dates of these MSS are very close to dates of their originals. 7. The Bible's textual integrity is more certain than that of Plato's writtings and Homer's Illad. 8. History written ahead of time is proof the Bible is not a product of man. 9. In contrast, the book of mormon: archaeology has repeatedly failed to substantiate the book's claims of cities, persons, names or places mentioned. 10.From a historical and legal perpective, if enough eyewitnesses are alive when the the facts are published, it's can be fairly well established the vaidity of a secular event. (see 1 Cor 15.6) 11. Anthropology Science (study of humanity and social cultures) confirms the Bible.
  • Same as your reason for not believing in the Tooth Fairy.
  • Well, I don't believe in Santa, the Easter bunny, tooth fairies or leprechauns either for pretty much the same reason. Prove to me that these things exist and can do ALL of these magical things people claim they can do in story books. If you can't, then it remains to be fiction.
  • My "reason" not to believe in a god? For what "reason" should I believe in one? I believe the answer is "reason"! "Reason" is what we use so as not to believe in mythology and superstition.
  • 1. Which god, from the thousands upon thousands to choose from? 2. Which god (or gods) has evidence for its existence that is unique, different, universally accepted, repeatable, measurable and objective? Miracles, prophecy, holy scriptures, inner convictions, life-changing moments and the like do not count - as they are present in all religions and attributed to almost all gods.
  • Why do you not believe in any others?
  • What difference does it make why a person does not believe in God. Everyone is free to believe in what they want to believe in. When we keep challenging the opposing view, it could mean that we are not comfortable with our own views and have doubts. To each their own. I believe in God, and I respect those who dont.
  • I didn't think I needed one.
  • Same reason I don't believe in any other fairy tales... Tell me..do you REALLY believe all the stars in the sky will fall to earth someday? Says so in the by-bull so it must be true, huh? It's somewhere in that last goofy chapter that never makes a lick of sense to anyone except the "special" people who claim to understand gibberish better than everyone else..
  • I have reached to the conclusion that God is an extension of the imaginary friend that we had when we were little kids. We can't or won't accept the reality that one day we are going to die and decompose.....not a pretty sight.... so we have created "the better life, the Paradise" in which we will have eternal happiness and a nice get together with our loved ones. In my opinion, men created God....not the other way around.
  • The whole God created man thing doesn't make sense to me. It makes more sense man created God. Sounds like something a group of drunken, peyote smoking jagoffs came up with one night around a camp fire. Holy ghost stories.
