  • Yea, and you don't want to catch their eye because they will come over to you and start talking to you. +3
  • No, I like observing them. In Richmond there was one guy who would get into a heated argument with the dumpsters behind my apt and then start boxing some invisible enemy.
  • No. I am fascinated by these guys. If they want to chat that's OK with me. I can usually adopt a communication style they are happy with. I like people who are 'different.'
  • Do they disturb me. Hell no! That's free entertainment. Where's the popcorn? +4
  • Even though I know most of them are harmless, I still have my defenses up, just in case.
  • No, its quite entertaining really. There's a guy in our area that walks up and down the town centre screaming '1234' at the top of his voice. x
  • Only as much as the idea of being in close proximity to someone with a degenerating brain disease who is probably not taking his medication and who is incapable of responding appropriately to stimuli and incapable of determining reality should bother me.
  • im a people watcher so i enjoy these people, it's fun and it also makes me think about life and how just about anyone could end up in life...
  • I think you have to be a bit disturbed yourself to NOT be disturbed by watching that. It's upsetting that so many in that situation are homeless or abandoned by their families. It's just sad.
  • You call it an unkempt dude with strange involuntary body movements, I call it free entertainment.
  • No, I feel sorry for them. people treat them as if they are some sort of cute entertainment system, when really they hae serious problems and are probably in distress.
  • Yes, and it's precisely the reason why my 2 little daughters don't like going downtown. I like to take the family downtown for dinner or entertainment once in awhile, but my children (aged 7 and 5) always tell me "Daddy, we don't want to go there because of all those scary dangerous people!" I've confronted quite a few in the past downtown asking me for change for alcohol. They get violent if you refuse them. I've also noticed that the demographics of these "psychotic people" is changing----there are more young people now like that downtown and in other public places (i.e., under the age of 21). I surmise that they must come from violent, broken homes, hence the alienation and psychological problems. I sent you an email philosophersaint.
  • Nah. Those kinda people are actually usually harmless, because if they were an actual threat, the authorities would take them away. Of course, there are plenty of exceptions, but other than just being weird, meh. Am not disturbed.
  • The only thing that disturbs me is the quandary of "Are they really nutz or talking on a cell phone via a bluetooth/wireless?" Beyond that, I'm always up for a good public spectacle.
  • no I know how to handle them it's the 'normal' ppl in less public palces that scare me
  • all of them used to be in sanitariums. then r reagan let them loose. he said we couldnt restrain them if they didnt want it. they might have fun in a nice sanitarium, where you could say no and keep your dignity.
