Less Religious.. more commercial but more than that, a family holiday.. an holiday where even if people are far, become close for few days at least.. A little utopia in an unperfect world..

It's supposed to be religious. But people who believe in nothing religious or spiritual at all, exchange presents. It's like they want to be part of something they don't believe in. Commercial feeds off anything that would bring a buck, to include death. +5

It's a little bit of everything. Originally it was a celebration of the midwinter solstice. But over time it got coopted. Another religion borrowed it, and another borrowed it. Nowadays, it's largely commercial, with the occasional "true believer' celebrating it their own way.

As Garfield said, it's the one time of year where you hide your bad side and just show everyone this superficial good side. It's totally superficial and fake. As if you need a specific time of the year to tell your loved ones that you love them.

In North America it seems to be more a commercial holiday. The santa we associate is a character made up by a soft drink company in the 1930's.The reindeer were made up by a major department store around the same time.It is centered around the tree(a pagan ritual) and the major issue is gifts. The families now have a reason to meet and have a week or weekend visit with food and merryment.

Presently, it's a commercial holiday. In the minds of nearly everyone, Christmas is all about shopping for shit to give to others and receiving shit that someone else bought for you. I don't see how it could be anything but a commercial holiday. It's supposed to by the day Mary squeezed Baby Jesus bloody and screaming out of her torn vagina, but even that's not true. Everyone lied to you about Santa and Jesus both.
