  • It' s called Hyperpigmentation a common, usually harmless condition in which patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin color, forms deposits in the skin. Hyperpigmentation can affect the skin color of people of any race. Its also the dark area under the eyes!
  • The ooomahgollygollies better get that checked
  • When your doctor or nurse did your exam, they pointed out a dark skin patch on your neck, armpit, under the breast or a skin crease. This dark patch is called acanthosis nigricans (AAY-can-THO-sis NIG-ruh-cans), or "A.N." It is usually a sign that your body is making extra insulin that it cannot use well. So the insulin builds up, and as a result, you may get a dark area of skin. We call this insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is a step towards developing type 2 diabetes. However, remember that not everyone with insulin resistance will develop diabetes. Acanthosis nigricans (A.N.) can be embarrassing. Some people call it "dirty neck" and try scrubbing it or even using bleach to get rid of it. These don't work, though, so spare yourself the bleaching. The good news is that taking control over your weight -- learning to eat well, be active and lose some weight -- lowers the amount of unused insulin in your body. This will help get rid of A.N.
  • I don't know what it's called but I have the same problem on my underarms(it's so ugly & embarrasing!!!)I did buy that "South Beach Skin Solutions Skin Lightening gel for sensitive areas" it hasn't worked for me,not even a shade lighter & I've been using it for @ 2 months. If you find something ,anything that works on lightening those areas PLEASE let me know.
  • How can I avoid the Insulin Resistance, my mom and granny had Type 2 Diabetes. I am starting to have discoloration. Can doctors help me?
  • I have no idea what it's called but i think it could be a build up of melanin. If you want to try and get rid of it read on :) You can get laser treatments to help lighten these dark areas but it is pricely so forget that lol. You could try using papaya soap which is meant to help aswell. Also go to your doctor to see if he/she can prescribe you some kind of cream (maybe they could tell you what this is to). I also heard that making a paste out of lime juice, cucumber juice and cumin powder helps. You should leave it on the dark areas for about 15-20 mins and then rinse it off. Im not sure if these methods really do work but it's worth a try right? I hope this helps and good luck! :)
  • I am 37 Yrs old I suddenly start getting some black spots under my arms and between mys legs,it start spreading around my stomach waist and breast. it is not hurting, carries no liquid just a black spot of some may raised and then get flat
  • Its called hair
  • I believe it is quite common to have darker skin between your legs due to chafing (anywhere the is chafing). However, if you have this "dark skin" on your neck that is a sign of insulin resistance (and is not due to chafing) and if it is on your neck you should see your doctor immediately because you could have diabetes, and as you may know, diabetes left untreated can lead to blindness, a stoke, and a plethora of other serious health problems.
  • hair...:)
  • It's probably A.N. like anon said. Insulin Resistance. Do you also notice where it is especially on the inner thigh the skin is kind of "velvety" like. Start watching the sugars and starches and it will lighten some... the more sugar/starches I eat the darker it gets. :) Good Luck!
  • dirt,have a wash
