No, I don't think that's possible. To do that he'd have to start his term with the economy blooming and run it into the ground. Then he'd have to start at least one unjustified war and kill hundreds of thousands of civilians while lying to congress and the public about it, and turn the greatest show of solidarity towards the US in history, into a situation where the US is among the least trusted nations.

Are they physically present in the same room as the president at all times? What if, to pick a couple of names not entirely at random, Cheney or Rumsfeld hold a meeting with Bush, explain that there really are no WMDs, but then produce an official report to the SSCI that they have evidence of WMDs? Because one thing IS clear - there were no WMDs, nor evidence of them.

Republicans want his POLICIES to fail. This is because Republicans prefer limited government and low taxes (yes, I know Bush wasn't a holy champion of either). Whether President Obama looks bad doesn't make much difference to me except that people who look really good can often talk people into doing (or voting) against their best interests. . I think it is happening already. Bush's willingness to go along with what was then thought of as out of control spending is looking like pocket change compared to Obama. His world apology tour didn't do much for his future legacy either. Obama may actually go down as worse than Harding, Buchanan, and Carter.
