  • Ok, now my brain hurts...
  • This is the bible we're talking about. If you read it too closely and start applying logic the whole thing falls apart. If you're going to subscribe to it, it can't be with the idea that it's all going to make sense. Either you believe, or you don't
  • LMAO - Remember the Star Trek episode where Harry Mudd was 'king' of an android planet? When he finally decided to work with Kirk, he decommissioned Norman by doing something similar. Kirk said, 'everything Harry says is a lie!' Then Harry said to Norman, 'I'm lying!' Norman went into a fugue and finally his chest medallion smoked. No, that's just a dumb little contradiction. He doesn't even SAY that.
  • interesting i will have to think about this one............... GOT IT! Just because he is the father of lies doesn't mean he has to lie all the time! it just means we can't trust him! also he would have to be real, to say he was real, unless it was someone pretending to be him, but then he would of had to exist for some one to pretend to be him wouldn't he? oh hang on, you can pretend to some one that isn't real, just talked about as a myth! so the answer is.................. i applied to much logic there and made it to complicated (sigh) i'm my own worst enemy sometimes....
  • I didnt realize he says hes real. I realize he wants people to think hes not real...(the confused ones) cuz if hes not real, then that must mean God is not real. He has done a damn good job of that here in america, and that is why you dont see many "crazy" things goin on like you would in 3rd world countries.
  • maybe he would say that because he wants you to think that.
  • The biggest liar can't deny the fact that he exists!
  • The best lies there are always mix some elements of truth in to camouflage the falsehood. Look at how he tempted Eve to partake of the fruit of the Tree of knowledge of good and evil. Two of the things that he told her were confirmed to be true by God Himself. The only lie that he told her was that she would not die if she ate the fruit. So, the best liars do mix in some truth because to not do so makes the lies more obvious.
  • of course not. being the father of lies doesn't mean he doesn't know and spout truth. in the Bible, he's recorded quoting scripture! to the Lord Jesus Christ!
  • He is called the father of the lie, because he was the first person/spirit to tell a lie. If every thing that came out of someones mouth that was a liar, was a lie, then it would be easy to discern truth from lies and there would be no innocent people in jail and no guilty people walking free. He actually did not say he was real or that he was not real. Regardless if he said "I am real" or "I am not real" that in itself would be proof that he is real, at least to the one that heard him say that. In my personal opinion, he might reveal himself to some who he can get to worship him, while trying to not be so obvious to those that knowing that he is real, might second guess their belief that what they can't see, can't be real such as God. I have known some people in the past that are habitual liars. That does not mean that everything they say is a lie, but I would take everything they say with a grain of salt and let what they say stand on its own merits based on other factors or the credibility of other witnesses to whatever the subject is.
  • No. The best liars mix truth and lies. Satan's biggest victory has been to convince most of the world that he does not exist. "But deliver us from evil." The last petition to our Father is also included in Jesus' prayer: "I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I ask you to protect them from the evil one." (Jn 17:15) In this petition, evil is not an abstraction, but refers to a person, Satan, the Evil One, the angel who opposes God. The devil is the one who "throws himself across" God's plan and his work of salvation accomplished in Christ. The Bible teaches that Satan is a fallen angel. Scripture sees in this being a fallen angel, called "Satan" or the "devil". (Cf. Jn 8:44; Rev 12:9) Satan was at first a good angel, made by God: "The devil and the other demons were indeed created naturally good by God, but they became evil by their own doing." Scripture speaks of a sin of these angels. (2 Pet 2:4) This "fall" consists in the free choice of these created spirits, who radically and irrevocably rejected God and his reign. The devil "has sinned from the beginning"; he is "a liar and the father of lies." (1 Jn 3:8; Jn 8:44) It is the irrevocable character of their choice, and not a defect in the infinite divine mercy, that makes the angels' sin unforgivable. "There is no repentance for the angels after their fall, just as there is no repentance for men after death." Scripture witnesses to the disastrous influence of the one Jesus calls "a murderer from the beginning," who would even try to divert Jesus from the mission received from his Father. (Jn 8:44; cf. Mt 4:1-11) "The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil." (1 Jn 3:8) The power of Satan is, nonetheless, not infinite. He is only a creature, powerful from the fact that he is pure spirit, but still a creature. He cannot prevent the building up of God's reign. • But if everything you say is a lie, that would be true. But if that is true, everything you say is not a lie. But then that would be a lie.
  • truth is he already convinced a lot of people he isn't real, but the truth "shall reveal itself".
  • Sounds good to me :)
  • When has he said he's real? It seems more like he convinces people he's not real. "The effectiveness of Satan's strategy demands anonymity. His deception is most successful because of his ability to work in secrecy and darkness. If his tactics were to be exposed, and we were readily aware of how Satan is distorting the Word of God and deceiving us to embrace defeat, we would readily resist it. ...To expose him and bring his tactics to light is to defeat him. ...He does not want to be exposed, nor does he want us to claim the victory God has given us." (Jerry Rankin, Spiritual Warfare) Satan is described by God's Word as... --A“LIAR” without “a shred of truth in him”, the “father of all that is false”--who “fills the world with lies”, imparts “[superficial] wisdom”, appears as something “beautiful” and “plays to the gallery of those who hate the truth that could save them." (various verses) "The devil works to deceive us and convince us that his promises are true and God's Word is a lie." (Billy Graham) "They refuse to trust truth, [they choose] world of lies and illusions. ...How blessed [happy] is the man...in whose spirit there is no deceit." (2 Thessalonians 2:9, Psalm 32:2) --AN “ACCUSER” who accuses us before God "day and night" (John 8:44, Revelation 12:10, Revelation 12:10, Zechariah 3:4,5). --A “KILLER” who “is only there to steal and kill and destroy” --A "LION" who "prowls around...looking for someone to devour", who is "poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping.” (1 Timothy 3:7, 2 Timothy 2:26, 1 Peter 5:8). --AN ADVERSARY "Satan's one goal is to stop God's work wherever it is taking place. To accomplish this he schemes and works every way he can, and he is behind all the evil that takes place in the world. His name—Satan—literally means 'Adversary'—and that is what he is: our adversary." (Billy Graham) --BEAUTIFUL. “Satan does it all the time, dressing up as a beautiful angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14) --WICKED, EVIL and MALICIOUS (1 John 2:3, Job 1:9, Job 2:4) --FIERCE and CRUEL (Luke 8:29, 9:39, 42; 1 Peter 5:8) --PROUD (1 Timothy 3:6) --CLAIMING TO BE GOD. ["The Antichrist/Anarchist will] take over every so-called god or altar, [clear] away the opposition [and] set himself up in God's Temple as ‘God Almighty’”. His “power and signs and miracles are fake, evil sleight of hand that plays to the gallery of those who hate the truth that could save them. ...[That same] spirit of anarchy [is] now at work.” (2 Thesalonians 2) --PERVERTING THE SCRIPTURES: “For the second test the Devil took him to the Holy City. He sat him on top of the Temple and said, ‘Since you are God's Son, jump.’ The Devil goaded him by quoting Psalm 91: ‘He has placed you in the care of angels. They will catch you so that you won't so much as stub your toe on a stone.’" (Matthew 4:6) --HINDERING THE GOSPEL: "When anyone hears news of the kingdom and doesn't take it in, it just remains on the surface, and so the Evil One comes along and plucks it right out of that person's heart.” (Matthew 13:19) --BLINDING OUR MINDS TO THE TRUTH: "If you are a Christian, Satan hates you because he lost what you now have, and that is eternal life with Jesus Christ in heaven forever! If you are not a Christian, he still hates you, and will try to trick you into not believing and accepting Jesus Christ into your heart." (Billy Graham “For the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers' minds [that they should not discern the truth], preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God. ..All they have eyes for is the fashionable god of darkness. They think he can give them what they want, and that they won't have to bother believing a Truth they can't see. They're stone-blind to the dayspring brightness of the Message that shines with Christ, who gives us the best picture of God we'll ever get.” (2 Corinthians 4:4) The Devil makes it appear as though the lie he is telling us is true, by... --PUTTING IT IN FIRST PERSON SINGULAR. (Ever had repeating nagging thoughts such as "I'm dumb", "I'm ugly", "Nobody loves me", "I can't do anything right"?) --NOT TELLING THE WHOLE LIE AT ONCE. He begins by "bombarding our mind with a cleverly devised pattern of little nagging thoughts, suspicions, doubts, fears, wondering, reasonings and theories." (Joyce Meyer) --INCLUDING SOME TRUTH. He maintains just enough truth in the lie that we never examine or question the assumption. Misbeliefs often contain a shred of truth. Words like “Oh I can't do anything right. I'm always making mistakes” are good examples. You'll believe these lies when you've just made a mistake. If you believe words like that, you are believing a lie, straight from the Devil himself. "The Holy Spirit clearly says that in the last days some people will leave the faith. They will follow spirits that will fool them. They will believe things that demons will teach them." (1 Timothy 4:1) "Some of them have already left and gone after Satan...following the prince of the power of the air.” (1 Timothy 5:15, Ephesians 2:2) "We know that the whole world is under the sway of the evil one." (John 5:19) "Just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.” (2 Corinthians 11:2-4, 13-15) “Woe to those who call...evil good...who put darkness for light...!” (Isaiah 5:20) "For our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers...authorities...world powers of darkness...spiritual forces of evil in the heavens." (Ephesians 6:12) However... "The thief [Satan] comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." (Jesus, John 10:10) "[God] wants...everyone saved...to get to know the truth" (1 Timothy 2:4) “If you continue in My Word, you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (Jesus, John 8:31-32) "Submit yourself to God. But resist the Devil and he will run away from you." (James 4:7) "Be strengthened by the Lord" (Ephesians 6:10-13) “I give them real and eternal life. They are protected from the Destroyer for good. No one can steal them from out of my hand.” (Jesus, John 10:28) "He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son" (Col. 1:13) “One other thing needs to be said about the devil: He is a defeated foe! By His death and resurrection Jesus Christ conquered all the forces of death and Hell and Satan, and when we belong to Christ, we are safe from all these terrors forever. Make sure of your salvation by giving your life to Christ today.” (Billy Graham) Recommended resources: 1) "The Steps To Freedom In Christ": "A Step-By-Step Guide To Help You" --Resolve personal and spiritual conflicts --Break free from bondage and renew your mind --Experience daily victory as a child of God http://www.amazon.com/Steps-Freedom-Christ-Booklet-Revision/dp/0830735860/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1243627783&sr=8-1 2) The following 5 minute video (with over 20 million views): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyheJ480LYA 3) ""Spiritual Warfare: The Battle For God's Glory" by Jerry Rankin: http://www.amazon.com/Spiritual-Warfare-Battle-Gods-Glory/dp/0805448802/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1246177054&sr=8-1 "The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit, be with..you."
