  • I have no idea how it benefits the world. It benefited me by making me aware that there was a world outside of mine full of interesting people and customs. My world would be less if it weren't for Ms. Chauvin and Bro. Alfred who taught me English Lit. They were wonderful teachers and made me appreciate reading.
  • Literature doesn't make the world a better place. It just is. It's like asking "how do hotdogs make the world a better place?" So, to answer the question - I don't think it benefits the world at all. But also: it does no harm. It brings pleasure and enjoyment (and rage and anger) to people. And I'm quite happy for it to stay that way. :)
  • it opens the world's eyes to English history, values, and language. It's just a pity we can't read more of literature from non-English speakers. Just a thought.
  • Only if you enjoy reading it does it benefit the world.
  • Any literature benefits the world only if it benefits the / an individual.
  • It gives the former colonies who were forced to learn English, something they can collectively hate.
