  • well, during my days, a "dang" paddle! True story, moved from the city to a country school when my dad was in and out mental hospitals due World War II problems, had on some white shoes...oh my gosh, country boys did not like that at all. Was playing on the playground (was in the 6th grade) and Keith Mattews trip me when I was running full speed...gosh, did I get dirty...got up, and decked him. We went at it, big time....Mr. Reeves, the principal, took us to the office and literally raised up off the floor with FIFTEEN licks a piece...ummmmm Years later, had moved back to Oxford, Ms and was the star basketball player in our area, and Mr. Reeves came to old Univ. of Miss gym where I was practicing basketball, and he was with the Head Basketball coach at my prior school, and wanted to give my mom free rent and get her a good job in the school to come back and play basketball for them...MsC, remember that BEATING he gave me...and said, no thank you Sir...would have liked to have said something else... Sorry for the long-winded answer..but, your post brought back memories...+5

  • I can only laugh when I read this question... Having been an elemntary teacher for a lot of years now, to make a list would not be justice, because it would never be complete... But the top 5 of my all time favorite things I can think of that i have had in my desk would be... #5... Wintergreen Lifesavers... I had a drawer dedicated to wintergreen life savers... I mentioned that I liked them one day, and the students seemed to immeidately run to Walmart and buy the big bags... I just poured them into one of my desk drawers and it filled up and there was still more... #4... Mold... My first year, apparently the teacher before me did not take good care of the desk... the bottom drawer had serious issues... #3... $50 bill... Also my first year, I found it wedged in one of the drawers... #2... Class pictures... I keep a copy of the class pictures and have all the students sign them every year... And my favorite thing in my desk is... #1... A gameboy... Yup, I took a gameboy from a student about 4 years... The student is even still in the school... I had told the student that the only way they were gonna get it back was to have his mom come and get it... Apparently mom was not too thrilled about him taking it to school, so she decided to stick with the punishment... I put away in the bottom drawer (not the formerly moldy one) and forgot about it... It was not until after summer when I was cleaning the desk that I remembered it... I still have not told him, I'm thinking it might make a great graduation present...
  • Chalk to throw at us when we are talking. LOL
  • Two black billiard balls. The teacher told the class, if one of them could answer a question she asked each Friday, they could have Monday off. First question. How many grains of sand are there on a beach? No answer. 2nd. How many gallons of water in the Ocean. No answer. Little Johnny (we all know little Johnny) hated Mondays, would give anything not to have to come to school. Friday came, the teacher was about to ask her question when Johnny rolled two black billiard balls down the aisle to her desk. She asked, Who's the comedian with the black balls.' Bill Cosby, Johnny called.'See you all on Tuesday.'
