  • No! "The right of the people to be secure IN THEIR PERSONS, houses, papers, and effects, AGAINST UNREASONABLE SEARCHES and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. The Constitution: It's not just a good idea, it's the law!
  • constant surveillance is a crime in my book, so it's just not possible
  • "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." - Benjamin Franklin
  • ever seen the movie or read the book 1984? Ever heard the saying "those who relinquish freedom for security, deserve neither freedom nor security"? Constant surveillance IS a crime if you ask me, and we pretty much are under constant surveillance of some form or another be it streetcams, traffic cams, security cams, our phone, internet, shopping habits etc. In my opinion there will ALWAYS be crime, people will always find a way to buck the system and no amount of control will stop it, it only robs those who DO obey the law of their freedom.
  • In PUBLIC areas? Sure, I would! We already have that in Atlanta, anyway. In tons of parking lots, too. Highly worth it! Now, if you would kindly get the government out of my house, that would be great. Thank you!
  • Constant? As in 24/7 and no public place out of view of cameras? NO. This carries the potential to actually follow (track) any given person. Innocent people shouldn't be tracked. The ability shouldn't be there.
  • Sure ; I not doing anything in public that I am ashamed of ....
  • No. Because they'd probably raise taxes to put up those stupid cameras.
  • Of course. Isn't that kind of a no-brainer?
  • Hell no
  • I would if there was a guarantee that it would work, obviously, but there is none, and it probably wouldn't. Not only would desperate criminals find a way around the cameras, but it puts those monitoring everyone in a position of terrible power over everything, and that never ends well.
  • Not constant, but frequent surveillance.
  • The city centres in the UK are complerely covered by CCTV. If you move about here you are caught on hundreds of cameras every day.
  • This is an excellent question that everyone should be thinking about. With advances in technology it will soon be possible to put video cameras everywhere and store the images for weeks. With some computer recognition software you could trace the path of a perp backwards from camera to camera and gather information on him. I really don't cre if I am being filmed in public. But here are two more interesting questions: 1) Who controls the video information? For what purposes can it be used and who gets to decide that? If the information in the public domain for anyone to see? Most importantly, can we trust the people who have access to the video? 2) Would you want to live in a society where you were punished for every little transgression? Step off the sidewalk in the middle of the block and get a ticket for $50 because the government decided it needed to raise money for the politicians' pet projects?
  • I don't know many places around here where there aren't cameras, some people will commit crimes even in front of them, like when they rip ATMs out of a wall or off a concrete slab, rob stores/banks sometimes looking right into the camera, I saw a guy slam his girlfriends head into the car window in front of a cop, it would never stop all crime for people like this who just don't care
  • In high-crime areas, darn tootin' I would. I have nothing to hide and everything to lose..my life among the "everything". I normally am home safe and sound in the evening..but I would love knowing that I'm on camera if I should have to venture out and about where bad stuff happens...nail the bad guys...stop 'em in their tracks. Traffic patterns have changed for the better in cross-sections where there are cameras that will get your picture if your break the law. I see nothing wrong with that whatsover. If people were "good" we wouldn't need police, would we? Sometimes even "good" people try to sneak something past someone..which might result in death when running a red light for instance. Surveillance is good..just not in my home. Out and about in public..thumbs up! :) Happy Wednesday! :)
  • Yes, I have nothing to hide.
  • those who want to commit a crime will do so regardless if there are cameras or not. and those who are responsible for setting the cameras up, aren't doing so to prevent crimes. No. "Those who substitute liberties for security deserve neither." - Benjamin Franklin.
  • I live in the UK. So I accept constant surveillance in public areas (pretty much) without a crime-less society. So a crime-less society would be a bonus which I would gladly accept.
  • There will never be a crime-less society regardless what surveillance they use, just look at convenience stores they have cameras everywhere and that doesn't not stop them from being robbed.
  • there is no crime-less society for one, the lock only keeps the inocent at bay, and tempts the theif to see what so valuable, besides the first post is right, its a bigger crime alienating the constitution under lies of security, its the path to slavery and the evidence is in our history.
  • No, I like to pick my panties out of the crack of my ass without being watched just like everyone else.
  • The USSR had that kind of Society and at one time we westeners thought it was bad, when we wanted it to be. A good politician under democracy is quite as unthinkable as an honest burglar.
  • Yes. Public is public. Surveillance of a public area is no loss of privacy to anyone.
  • Absolutely!
  • Definitely
  • In my home, I want/deserve my privacy. In public, I accept the fact that someone could be watching. Therefore, I avoid activities in public that might get me into trouble. So adding cameras that cover every square inch of the city will not change my behavior at all. All it will do is make me feel safer. So yes, bring on the cameras.
  • If I flip off the cammera is that a crime? if it is, then having been caught on cammera I will be stolen from when fines are imposed. crime-less??? the only way to have a crime-less society is to get rid of all laws.
  • Yes, I certainly would. I have absolutely nothing to hide, and I don't trust people who do.
  • Hell no. When it comes to government, they'll always come up with a new definition of a crime to justify controlling us.
  • Absolutely not. Only because I know when I'm not getting my share of the bargain. Crime will happen whether Big Brother is watching or not. And if "Crime" actually stops, they'll redefine what "Crime" is, in order to fine enough people to pay the overhead of the surveillance system.
  • If a person has nothing to hide, this should not be a problem.
  • How about I just carry my gun in public and not worry about it?
  • we do not need big brother watching, crimminals do not care, an armed citizen is the best deterent to crime!
  • If you want to be a slave do that.
