  • As safe as it ever was. The only things that have changed are the number of news reports of how unsafe it can be, but as far as I can tell, the human attacks on women have kept to about the same percentage wise. Now that bear and cougar hunting have been severely limited the number of animal attacks on women (and men) hikers have gone up but are still very small.
  • Be sure to take the proper precautions, mmm? Like at least telling people where you are.
  • i've not had any trouble. i usually stick to less-used trails, in fact, i am surprised when i see someone else out on the trails. i always carry pepper spray and evaluate the trails before i go out on them. some areas are known for being kind of sketchy, so i avoid them when i'm alone. i've heard more stories about people being attacked on sidewalks in nice neighborhoods than i've heard of people being attacked out in the woods.
