I have made a pledge to be happy every single day for the rest of my life, because I do not like the alternative. To do that, I have to allow some time every once in awhile to completely wallow in the pain and sadness that I have experienced, and I keep in a little box, out of the way, but never forgotten. I frequently (at least twice a week) choose to indulge in the sadness that is in my life. I lost two husbands, and my oldest son suffered a severe stroke a couple of years ago that has left him a mere shadow of his former self. I carefully choose where and when I will do this, with the few fleeting moments when they rise to mind, before returning to their box.
